AMAZING and DELICIOUS… can’t wait to go back. It’s loud inside, so if looking for a quiet night… just try and ignore the exciting energy… got our friend to like sushi here View all feedback.
What Joyce Durgan dislikes about Uchi:
Our server was OK. Not very enthusiastic and was rushing a lot of her words and our order. The food was also just OK. I feel like the service and the overall quality food has gotten worse over the past three years. Iâm a longtime patron and a longtime resident of Austin and have frequent in the restaurant quite a few times. The prefix menu of servings should honestly have a little more fresh fish and sushi rolls. View all feedback.

My friend is a top-notch food critic, and I asked her to recommend the best Austin restaurant for my trip there. She recommended Uchi, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. We spent hours at Uchi tasting various dishes recommended by our waiter basedon our preferences that we shared with her prior to dinner. This is called omakase, which I highly recommend. I couldn’t eventell you everything we ate, but I can tell you that the crab and oysters were some of the best ever, and that the grand finalewas some steak sushi with a bit of wasabi on the top. Delicious. Incredible. Truly one of the best dining experiences I’veever had.
Happy hour! Yes, if you are able to make it anytime from 4:30 to 6:30, I highly recommend. Portions are a bit smaller, still super delicious, fresh, carefully put together. The fish here is always super fresh, dishes are very playful and the service istruly fine dinning. Be ready to valet since there is no parking and as always in Austin, reservations are needed most of thetime.
We asked them to feed us, and this was probably the best meal we've ever had. Seriously. The service is exceptional, our server was knowledgeable about their menu, and after answering some simple questions about our taste/preferences she curated a tastingmenu we won't forget anytime soon. If you are in Austin and enjoy this cuisine, go. Make a reservation and GO!
Incredible! We are vegan and they were not only accommodating, but every dish was amazing and served to perfection! Beautiful, flavorful, and complex in every bite. We celebrated our 9 year anniversary tonight and they surprised us with multiple itemsbased on what we liked. Our waitress Kat was lovely and the bartender (I didn’t get their name ???? was wonderful too. Theyboth recommended sakes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Can’t wait to come back for the next occasion or just because ????????

Amazing food both in variety and quality for a sushi dinner experience. Wait staff was helpful and always in motion. Overall a great dining experience!
Some things get better with time (or at least stay the same) and others wilt like week-old flowers. Unfortunately, Uchi is a pale shadow of its former self. This used to be our absolute favorite sushi restaurant, and while it was always a pricey meal, at least the quality and portions were balanced. You expected to spend 100/person, but it was great food and a treat. Instead, this was the most underwhelming meal my wife and I have ever had. The portions are now minuscule and the quality has dropped, making it a lose-lose. The highly-recommended flounder appetizer was a $20+ plate delivered with see-through thin sushi and maybe an ounce total of food. The nigiri was very thin, tiny pieces that barely covered the top of the rice, and strangely seared. The hamachi and mackerel both tasted overly fishy instead of clean and fresh. The rolls that we had hoped would at least fill us up or tiny and included only five slices each. The miso soup is served in a small ramekin with just a few ounces in it (mushrooms are an upcharge, for 6-7 pieces of mushroom). For a $250+ meal we got about 7-800 calories each. Very disappointing, there is no way I would ever recommend this place again.
Mallory was amazing! We came in here for my best friend‘s birthday and she was training employee and I truly feel like she did a great job. We had so many questions about the menu and she was able to answer every question and offer great off menu suggestions. It’s been a while since we have been here and I highly recommend this place because nothing has changed in regards to hospitality and food.

Austin's original cosmopolitan dining destination, which ushered in all that followed.
Waiters are knowledgeable, and you can ask to do a vegan tasting which is fun. Food has been fresh and tasty.
All of the vegan dishes here are chef’s kiss. There is a vegetarian/vegan menu available, so just request one. The smoked beets with cherries are just yummy. The brussels are flash fried and always tasty. The lion’s mane dish is full of flavor. The Uchi salad is also a dish that I would recommend.
It was fun atmosphere very nice staff really like the vegetarian options I was able to make them vegan and it just took a long time but they're very accommodating to your needs and allergies and I like the fact that I can hang my back right beside the table
They composed a vegan tasting menu just for me, tweaking the already existing vegetarian menu. Hard to swallow (pun intended) raving so much about a non-vegan restaurant but this was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever had, and coming from NYC, a fantastic value. Every course was a radically different creation of exploding flavors and textures. Absolutely blown away. May come here first the next time I’m in town and that’s saying a lot considering I only patronize vegan only joints (I was at a bachelor party).

Uchi exceeded our expectations! This was our third night of dining out in Austin, and it definitely topped our list as the best Japanese restaurant we have ever been to. If we return to Austin in the future, Uchi will be our first choice. The signature dishes here are exceptional and we decided to try the Chef's tasting menu, which was a great decision. This restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for outstanding food and service.
I haven’t been there for 2 years (I do not live in Austin) and it was just as AMAZING as I remembered. My favorite sushi restaurant in any city in the US!! It is delicious and such a fun experience.
We had to wait about 40 minutes past our reservation time, but we were given complimentary drinks at the bar. The food we enjoyed was all fantastic.
Absolutely fantastic experience from walking in the door to walking out. Service is on point and seamless from host stand to bartender attending for us while awaiting seating… to the beverage server who helped us during the main and the sushi chefs behind the sushi bar. Great culture of workstaff. Food was incredible… fresh, clean, delicious, interesting enough to be entertaining without getting overly convoluted. The hot rock wagyu was a fun at-table feature. Sake options went exceptionally well with the seafood. I hear the desserts are good but finish with their savory seared foie gras and a glass of Sauternes and you’ll be in heaven without needing a traditional dessert.

Maybe not QUITE worth all the hype but still worth a legit 5 stars. Their servers really make the experience more enjoyable by explaining the food so you're sort of intellectually involved in everything you're eating. It's a nice touch.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Uchi, a renowned Japanese restaurant, and I must say that the experience surpassed all my expectations. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted with warm hospitality and an ambiance that exuded elegance and tranquility. The menu at Uchi is a testament to the chef's mastery of Japanese cuisine. The variety of dishes offered is remarkable, featuring a fusion of traditional Japanese flavors with innovative and creative twists. Each plate is meticulously prepared and presented, showcasing a perfect balance of colors, textures, and flavors. One standout dish that left an indelible impression on me was the Hamachi Nabe, a delicate and fragrant yellowtail fish prepared with precision and served in a savory broth. The tenderness of the fish combined with the aromatic flavors of the broth created a harmonious blend that delighted my taste buds.
Always the most amazing meal! Never fails to impress! (Traducido por Google) ¡Siempre la comida más increíble! ¡Nunca deja de impresionar!

I still have a bad meal / experience at each of the Uchi sites. Service was great. Eating is always fantastic. We came during the happy hour, so we expected it was busy. The food was still at a steady pace. Desserts were phenomenal per usual. I always try to dinate in Uchi when I visit Texas.
Much more casual experience with fine dining than I’d ever imagined, and how refreshing! Insanely flavorful and exciting menu, with excellent service. Omar made my birthday super special. Will for sure be back for more!
5 star for sure ! Such a great experience with amazing food, so delicious and top quality. The restaurant has such good vibes. Staff is super friendly. We ordered so much food. We definitely will return. Highly recommend !
