The restaurant has a lovely exterior and is situated in a great spot in downtown. However, I was disappointed with the flavor of the brunch I ordered. I chose the classic breakfast with eggs, bacon, biscuits, and potatoes, along with a side of mac and cheese. Unfortunately, everything was tasteless, lacking any seasoning that would allow me to truly enjoy it. It might have just been an off day, but overall, it wasn't the most enjoyable dining experience.
The service was quick and friendly. I used a Groupon for a discount and received excellent treatment. I will definitely return! The Dirty Bird Sandwich was loaded with amazing smoked Gouda queso!
I inquired about the coffee options from a server wearing glasses, and she responded with visible annoyance. Rather than answering my question, she simply pointed to the wall where the options were displayed. I recognize that everyone has off days, but I found her response to be somewhat rude, especially since it was my first visit. I will definitely choose a different restaurant next time.
I was quite disappointed with my experience. I ordered a watermelon Italian soda, a jalapeño cheese kolache, and a chicken bacon ranch sandwich with mac and cheese. I enjoyed the kolache, but the Italian soda didn't have much flavor, so I asked for more. The chicken sandwich featured a small, deep-fried chicken thigh that was tough and underseasoned; I was expecting chicken breast. On a positive note, the bacon on the sandwich was really tasty.
Slake serves more as a dining and lunch destination than just a coffee shop. The coffee is good, but the true highlight is their cold brew. Honestly, it’s the best cold brew I've had in Austin. It boasts an impressively low acidity and a nearly natural sweetness. Just a heads up: the caffeine levels seem to be through the roof, as I can actually feel a tingling in my fingertips about an hour after I drink it.
