This restaurant is a reliable option for both authentic Chinese dishes and American favorites at a reasonable price. Unlike many trendy Chinese eateries that overcharge for mediocre food, this place has a cozy, traditional atmosphere that feels like it has been around for years. The prices are fair and in line with what you would expect for quality Chinese cuisine. I have dined here almost twice in one week because I... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Sichuan River:
The only thing we ordered that was not up to par was the aubergines with garlic. It was not authentic. However, the huh fried rice, maple tofu, and bark lo mein were all delicious. The only dish I would consider going back for is the tear. View all feedback.
Insensitivity. I had mapo tofu (vegetarian no meat.) I called the restaurant to ensure that the order they received was correct. the dame who just sought to say mapo tofu is just with flesh and suspended. that happened five times. my confusion was when mapo tofu is listed in the vegetarian section and also, who hangs on their customers?!
I placed my order through Uber eats and I called them WITHIN 2 MINUTES of placing my order to make sure it was correct. The woman who answered said “we already made it” laughed and hung up. Abysmal service.
Tried delivery from here as some friends recommended it. Ordered Lemon Chicken, Wonton Soup, Steamed Dumplings, and a Thai Boba tea on their website. The wonton soup was cold not even lukewarm but actually cool and it had no flavor. The bubble tea had no bubbles. When I called to let them know they said they hadn’t had boba in a long time. Why have it on the menu and sell it as bubble tea and serve it with a wide straw then? After I let her know about the soup as well the lady laughed and said sorry and hung up on me. The Lemon sauce was also very bland and the dumplings were not good but fine if compared to everything else. It’s not like I was looking for amazing quality, and I’m used to having mediocre Chinese delivery, but this is the worst Chinese food I’ve had in south Austin. That’s saying something.
The lady was very nice and helpful and food was so so good! We ordered fried dumplings, mapo tofu, twice cooked pork belly, and Singapore noodles. The tofu had a wonderful rich meat gravy and a lot of sichuan pepper flavor! Comparing our experience to other reviews it seems you are far better off being a bit more adventurous and not ordering the Americanized dishes.
The restaurant is not quite old. The food is terrific. The staff was very nice and extremely honest. If not for the staff, I would give this restaurant 4 stars.
