Was Ricardo G at Polvo's a mag?
Seems like a family-owned place where the daughters are the waiters, so as long as you go in with patience you'll probably enjoy it. Yes, service is not excellent. Passable, not excellent. Food was great, though. Yes, there was a wait to get the food, even when they weren't busy, but once it came out it was really good. I also had a Mexican Martini that was served in a generous shaker. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try! I visited for the first time and, although the place was empty, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was absolutely delicious, and I’m definitely planning to return. The service was great, the atmosphere was clean and comfortable, and the authentic cuisine was the highlight. The selection of salsas was fresh and flavorful. I ordered one of the enchilada plates with ground beef, which was not greasy at all, and it was fantastic! The homemade tortilla and the bowl of beans were so tasty that I could have made a meal out of just those. Fresh and healthy!

Fantastic Mexican cuisine! I had the shrimp taco, house salad, and a combo plate featuring a cheese enchilada with mole and a pastor taco wrapped in a corn tortilla. The frozen margaritas are quite good. So far, everything we've tried has been excellent. The fajitas al guajillo are amazing, offering beef or chicken with onions, bell peppers, three types of chilies, raisins, and pecans. The fish or shrimp a la plancha is a great choice if you're in the mood for seafood, featuring tender meat with slightly crispy edges. The camerones diablo are large shrimp served in a creamy, spicy chipotle sauce. The chicken flautas are particularly impressive—they're made with thin tortillas, flavorful stewed chicken, and are not greasy at all. If you're looking for something unique, definitely try the fish enchiladas with cartuja sauce. The choriqueso is also delicious, as is the Michoacán salad, which is a zesty mix of lime-marinated avocado, onion, serrano pepper, tomato, and cilantro. There's a self-serve salsa bar stocked with various tasty salsas to pair with complimentary chips. I've only visited the northern location, which is perfect for small groups and families.
This restaurant is one of Austin's best-kept secrets. The food is incredibly delicious—those Fajitas al Guajillo are the best I've ever tasted! The service is great too. Though it's a bit off the main streets, it's definitely worth the visit. Personally, I think it's even better than the south location.
To set the scene it is a Thursday night around 6. My wife needed to do some business in the area so she asked me I wanted to go with her and grab some food from this place. I really had pretty low expectations because I knew nothing. My first impressions were kinda neutral. The place was pretty empty but it was a Thursday at 6, so I can see that. We ordered drinks and then food. So, admittedly, the food took longer than expected. But, it was REALLY good when it did come. It was easily among the top 5 Mexican meals I have had here. I had the combo plate (taco and enchilada) which were great and my wife had a shrimp dish. We will definitely go back. This place is highly underrated, in my opinion.
