Native Grocery - Austin
Native Grocery
Description
A neighborhood market-kitchen serving Mediterranean and breakfast fare, automatic espresso drinks, Alec’s ice cream and a small grocery, all at affordable $8–$12 price points. Popular with students and locals for healthy, diet-friendly grab-and-go options, it blends convenience with surprising variety. Notes of inconsistency surface — missing ingredients and occasional order errors — and a few customers report brusque or unwelcoming staff interactions that may make some patrons uncomfortable. Pets must wait outside, but overall it remains a convenient, budget-friendly local find.

I’ve ordered from here around ten times, and my order has only been correct about twice. This last time, I ordered the chicken over rice salad, but they forgot the rice. Without the rice, the meal just felt incomplete. I had high hopes for it.
I was in the store for less than two minutes, asking just two questions, when I encountered a rather unpleasant blonde woman behind the counter. It felt as though not only did she dislike me, but she also detested her job. This interaction definitely left a bad impression on me. Trust me, I could see that she was far from delighted to be at work today. It’s unfortunate because prior to this, I had always had pleasant experiences with all the cashiers. One negative encounter shouldn't define a place, but I hope they address this issue, as the service industry deserves people who bring a positive attitude.
Inedible. Perhaps I just happened to go on an off day, but the shakshouka was truly disappointing. The taste was unusual and not enjoyable at all.
I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant due to the behavior of the staff and owners. I used to visit frequently when I lived on the East side and had a great appreciation for one of the women who worked there. However, the men on staff consistently treated me disrespectfully and would give me uncomfortable looks. I feel compelled to warn people of color, particularly women or those who present as female, to avoid this place if they want to feel safe.
My favorite convenience store in Austin! I go to school nearby and always make sure to stop by before class. I can rely on Native to offer me tasty, healthy options on the go. They also have a wide range of snacks to accommodate almost any dietary restriction you can think of. Plus, if you’re in the mood for something sweet, they have plenty of treats to satisfy your cravings! If you’re in the area and want to avoid the unhealthy food options nearby, definitely drop in! You won’t be disappointed.
