This restaurant serves the best and highest quality poke in the city consistently! The staff is friendly, the orders are quickly prepared, and the place is always clean and tidy. One of the employees, Jay, is a super cool guy! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Malibu Poke:
Fish ratio seemed bad and the citrus was overwhelming, needed some soy or something. Ordering was smooth but then the self bussing station is incredibly awkward to use. You have to lean down in a high-traffic area to barely fit you bowl inside of a cabinet, then the bins for the plates is basically on the floor it’s so low. All of this LOOKS very modern and clean…but it’s ergonomically horrible. Overall, an experienc... View all feedback.
I visit Malibu often for a quick and healthy alternative when wanting to walk and grab a bite. The ingredients are always very fresh and flavorful. Today I ordered the Spicy Chili Tuna bowl and asked them (off menu) to use half tuna and half salmon. The staff is super friendly and always happy to accommodate special requests. This bowl has tons of spice, crunch and toppings I like. When you order, there is the option to build your own or choose one of their classic bowls. You always have the choice of picking the base which includes various rice options, cauliflower rice and/or kale and you can also add or remove ingredients and sauces. I wish there were a few more topping choices when building my own. The restaurant is always clean and well lit. They have a number of tables outside with a view of the seaholm outdoor area.
We were walking around aimlessly the other day downtown and wanted a quick and light lunch. Malibu poke gave us exactly that. This place was a little different from what I'm used to, you order on a computer and they bring it out to you instead of choosing things in line. I didn't mind this, just thought it was interesting. The poke itself was ok, but I likely wouldn't return. Fewer toppings than I'm used to and at a higher price. There aren't many options for poke downtown though so this may be your only option!
Sauce should season the meat, not the rice. Just saying. The sauce want good either. I got the spicy one. The white ginger is gross. The sushi rice is quite sour which is not my preference for poke.
Fish tastes fresh but my goodness, the rice is soggy and sour like what other reviews have shared which is a first for me. The rice overpowers the fish completely that I had to eat the fish by itself to determine the freshness. Not sure if this is authentic to a region's taste but I have tried at least 15 poké places and none of them tasted like this
I love poke and this place is within walking distance from my community. So when I found out that, not only is it close, but it also delivers delicious poke bowls, I was elated!I kid you not I order from here nearly every week. And every time the quality is top tier. The fish always tastes super fresh as well as the other ingredients. The bowl is a great portion too. You are left feeling full but also feeling good about yourself for eating healthy!I would say that Malibu is not a cookie cutter poke bowl shop. They don't have the krab salad that's common in other shops, but they do provide a lot of other interesting ingredients to add to your bowl like jicama, mango, mint, etc.I like to create my own bowl: tuna salmon, rice kale, spicy aioli, avocado, ginger, onion, cucumbers, sesame seeds. Also get the wasabi aioli! It's so damn good!My only small gripe with this place is that they are closed on Tuesdays. It's probably better for business, but not better for my occasional Tuesday poke cravings!
