**Dining Review: Third and Main – A Mixed Bag Experience** Third and Main presents a varied dining experience, with consistently praised food quality but inconsistent service and atmosphere. While dishes like the pasta and Japanese A5 wagyu enchant diners, issues like overcooked steaks, slow service, and inattentive staff detract from the overall enjoyment. The ambiance has been critiqued as too laid-back or crowded, making conversation difficult. While the unique offerings and flavorful menu tempt patrons, the high prices relative to service quality prompt diners to reconsider their choices for future outings. Enthusiastic reviews highlight distinct dishes, yet the restaurant falls short of delivering a flawless upscale experience.
Next, we moved on to the main courses. I ordered the Prime filet cooked medium, but it arrived well done. It was so overcooked that the waitress noticed immediately and took it back to have it redone. My wife, on the other hand, had the salmon and absolutely loved it, which was a highlight. She ordered another glass of wine, but I opted to skip a refill. The sides were good, and the service was satisfactory. However, the atmosphere left much to be desired compared to other upscale steakhouses. The wooden tables and chairs were placed very closely together, making it difficult to have a conversation. While the food was certainly better than what you would find at a chain steakhouse, it fell short compared to other prime establishments, even though the prices were much more in line with the latter. The total for three drinks, one steak entrée, and one salmon entrée came to $165 with tip. We’re likely to explore other options during our next dining outing.
The Japanese A5 was exceptional. We absolutely enjoyed the Sea Biscuits and a lot of other dishes as well. There were four of us in our group, and each of us was thrilled with everything we ordered. What a fantastic discovery! We will definitely be coming back!
The bread service was underwhelming; I anticipated warm bread, but instead, it was cold, chewy, and lacking in flavor. My partner's 10oz Wagyu NY Strip seemed thinly cut and had more gristle than we expected. My filet was decent, and I appreciated the pink peppercorn tallow topping, while the mashed potatoes were good. My main issue with the food was the limited variety of side options; not everyone prefers mashed potatoes or a vegetable dish. When comparing prices with Ruby’s or Losanti, I don’t think I would make the trip back to Third and Main, unfortunately.
The food was good, but it didn't quite meet our expectations. We tried the bruschetta, three different types of steak, and a salad. Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. We were seated at a table in the bar area, and there were only about five other tables occupied in the restaurant. The bartender was also our server, but the service was slow. We ordered draft beer twice, and each time it took more than ten minutes to arrive. On one occasion, the beers were poured but left sitting on the bar with no one around to serve them. My husband had to get up and retrieve them himself. There's no reason a beer that needed to be served directly to us, but was instead taken to another table, shouldn't have been delivered immediately. We don’t need anything extravagant, but we expected much better service given the prices we were paying.
What a delightful surprise! I visited Aroura for dinner and looked up nearby restaurants. We sat outside in a charming and cozy courtyard with a musician playing. The food was exceptional, and the service was outstanding. The servers and host were all equipped with two-way radios to communicate and cater to guests' needs. It was a fantastic discovery, and we will definitely return!
