Was Sid S at Tabla a mag?
The food was amazing! However, the service could be better. Even though the restaurant was empty, we had to wait for our entire party to arrive before we could be seated. The chicken vindaloo was outstanding, and everything else we ordered was quite good as well. View all feedback.
Very disappointing management values and ethics at Tabla Buckhead. We called ahead and were told they couldn’t take reservations but that a table would be freeing up shortly for our party of three, so we were encouraged to come. When we arrived a few minutes later, they asked us to wait 10-15 minutes and pointed to a table, saying the guests had paid and would be done soon. We agreed and waited as requested. Then, a couple arrived who realized their reservation was for a different Tabla location. Instead of seating us at the table we had been waiting for, the host gave that table to the new couple and moved us to a bar table. The couple who received the table were not Indian, while we were made to feel we could be seated anywhere—an unfair assumption based on our ethnicity. Shortly after, another non-Indian couple arrived and was offered a regular table inside. When we questioned the host about the table he had initially indicated to us, he denied ever promising it, despite having pointed it out and asked us to wait. It was deeply disappointing to witness discrimination within the restaurant’s own team. No form of ethnic bias should be tolerated, yet this seems to be standard practice here. Whatever the motivation, this experience has left us unwilling to recommend Tabla, despite good food and ambiance. We chose another Indian restaurant instead and received excellent service. In fact, the original Tabla was upfront on the phone, informing us clearly that only bar seating was available so we could make an informed choice. Values and ethics matter immensely to any establishment, and discrimination should never be accepted.
After waiting about 15 minutes, a couple arrived who realized they had a reservation at the wrong Tabla location. Instead of honoring our wait, the staff gave our table to that couple and seated us at a bar table instead. This was frustrating, especially since the other couple was not Indian, and it felt like our presence was undervalued simply because of our ethnicity. To make matters worse, another non-Indian couple arrived after us and was immediately offered a regular table inside. When we pointed out that we had been waiting for that table, the staff member denied ever specifying which table we would get, despite us having pointed it out upon arrival. It was deeply disappointing to experience such discrimination from someone within their own community. I did not expect to face ethnic bias, but unfortunately, that seems to be how this restaurant operates. I can’t understand what the staff member hoped to achieve with this behavior, but we will certainly not recommend a place that lacks basic values, regardless of the food or atmosphere. We ended up going to another Indian restaurant where we received excellent service. Notably, the other Tabla location was polite and upfront over the phone, clearly stating they only had bar seating available. We chose to go elsewhere because values and ethics matter greatly to us, and discrimination in any form should never be tolerated.
I have enjoyed dining at Tabla for years, starting with their Midtown location in 2016 and more recently at their Buckhead spot. The food and service have generally lived up to my expectations. However, over the past year, I've noticed a troubling pattern: menu prices have risen significantly while portion sizes have shrunk. On my visit last week, I ordered chicken tikka and received only three small pieces. I also asked for chutney, which used to be included but now comes with an extra charge. Additionally, the rice servings with entrees seem to be getting smaller. On a positive note, their Samosas and Dal Bukhara remain excellent. One recommendation would be to designate a restroom specifically for women, as the shared facilities often have cleanliness issues.
This restaurant is fantastic! The food, service, and atmosphere are all outstanding. Although the menu isn’t extensive, every dish is truly delicious. The staff is well-trained and can give you great recommendations based on your tastes. The drinks were excellent, and the curries and naan were also very impressive. However, we felt the desserts didn’t quite measure up to what we’ve had at home and elsewhere. Overall, if you have the chance, it’s definitely worth a visit. I suggest making a reservation, as it's a good idea to do so.
