The drinks we had were pretty good. We enjoyed the jalapeño hush puppies. The beef and veggie enchiladas had excellent flavor, unfortunately they were barely warm. The corn pico was very fresh and good as was also the salsa. The rice was ok but very mediocre. Service was great, very friendly and attentive.. ambience downstairs is ok but probably much better in the bar area. View all feedback.
What Paul Rud doesn't like about Mountain Madre Mexican Kitchen Agave:
The guacamole had a metallic taste like it was old. The beef taco’s tasted like it was fried in burnt oil. The server forgot our side order completely. We will not be back. View all feedback.
Had a great impromptu meal dinner here. Excellent tacos and salsa. Place is super cute and the staff is great. No complaints, look forward to going back and trying the grilled avacado with chorizo.
We were in Ashville for a wedding, and my husband decided to take me to this restaurant because my favorite food is Mexican. I had to laugh because our server was the epitome of the tiktoks I see on what an Ashville server is like. There was no explanation of the menu or how things came. I wanted 2 street tacos with ground beef and all the fixins. There was confusion around the sauces, again, which could have been a non issue if there was an explanation on how the menu worked. We were encouraged to buy a flight or trio of sauces to try them out. I just wanted 2 tacos with salsa. The menu was confusing as it did not show that they came with salsa or pico. The server brought me a tablespoon of salsa and a tablespoon of pico on the side for my two street tacos. I know everyone's taste buds are different, but the ground beef was not seasoned well at all. It was mainly salt with a little bit of a chili powder taste. The street tacos were on ONE corn tortilla. My experience, everywhere else in the world, is that street tacos come with 2 corn tortillas. The taco was so hard to eat I ended up dumping the inside on top of the beans and rice so I could eat it with a fork. Unfortunately, the beans were not cooked or properly seasoned either. I was very disappointed in the lack of service, flavor of the food, and the inability to eat the taco with one flimsy tortilla that fell apart before I could finish. They only had a craft vodka, but that was fine. They could not make martinis, but the vodka soda I ordered was absolutely delicious and made very well. All in all, not a good Mexican food experience, but the atmosphere and drinks were nice. We went back to the hotel and ate food we brought for the trip.
The vegetarian enchiladas were outstanding. Chips and salsa and churros also fantastic.
The Street Tacos were good and accurately described. Both Tinga chicken and steak were very good. The Tinga chicken could have been more ... Tinga-y. The steak was from a decent cut; not like some places that give you bottom tier fatty or gristle-y cuts. However the flour taco shells both disintegrated upon first touch. The black beans and rice were really perfectly seasoned.
