Charlotte Street Grill Pub - Asheville

A sad, sad day for me. One of Asheville's bastions of good fish and chips has failed Absolutley. Now flat, lifeless and simply not good. A little fried cardboard and lower jaw. One of my favorites, like so many places in Asheville, is just not worth it anymore. ?

Walked in. 3 people were leaning against the bar. 1 group of people were in a booth eating. I walked from the front to back and didn't see a worker. I stayed for a minute and left. Dimly lit and rough looking. They might have good beers, food, and service, but I couldn't say that. Maybe I came at the wrong time ?

One of us had fish and chips and the other a cup of chili and an order of fries. The fish and chips was the best I've ever had. The fish was incredibly crispy on the outside, flaky, moist, and steaming hot on the inside, and not a bit greasy. The fries are big sticks, golden brown, crispy outside and fluffy-creamy inside. The chili is advertised as spicy, and it doesn't disappoint on that, but it's not blow your mouth hot, it's just the right amount of heat, and delicious.

My partner and I stumbled across this pub on the way to Sovereign Kava bar and were really impressed. It has pub style classics, I played it safe with chicken tenders. The fries and chicken were perfect with honey mustard. The place gives off a feel that the majority of patrons are regulars, but the staff were welcoming and accommodating.

Please get out and support these struggling small businesses. The wings are fantastic, dry jerk for me. Burgers were cooked perfectly, service was great. Will definitely be back.
