Was henry michovic at Mantra a mag?
Well well well, what's all this then? It's not three holes in the ground, no. It's quite possibly the best curry I've had in the south island. Possibly even the entire country. To start, a butter chicken samosa?! It set the bar high for the evening. Then the main. What a curry. What a naan. We were all perfectly full. Satiated. Will be coming back for more P.s. ambience was excellent and its easily the best service i... View all feedback.
What D R dislikes about Mantra:
Staff was trying to be nice but even with a reservation it took 2 hours to get us food and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. The coconut scallops were dry and tasteless, we gave it a bite and could not eat the rest. The garlic naan is basically flat bread with no taste which is almost impressive since how do you hide the taste of garlic? The rest of the food when it finally arrived was fine but certainly not wort... View all feedback.
So weird. This is one of those fantastic restaurants you didn't see coming. On a Friday night it was a ghost town. We were the only table. Scary. The waiter spoke broken English (he was French?! but he was sure to clarify so he got things right. The food rolled out sloooowly, but there was enough eclectic decor to keep the kids patient. Food was great. Spice was right. Pricing was right on. So leave yourself extra time and give this one a chance. Skip the fancy naan and keep it basic. Delish!
Great Indian food in a great location. Great service, too. Visiting from overseas and found this to be a rival of any Indian I've had.

The garlic naan is basically flat bread with no taste which is almost impressive since how do you hide the taste of garlic? The rest of the food when it finally arrived was fine but certainly not worth visiting for, I think supermarket Indian food tastes better. All in all, really not worth the visit since there is better Indian to be had and La Rumbla is nearby and incredible.
Great service and hospitality. The taste of the food was very good Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
My friend had recently been telling me how good the butter chicken samosas are so I asked him if he could bring one back to christchurch for me, he did and when I took a bite into the samosa I was for filled with the most delicious and flavourful butter chicken paired with the buttery and crispy outside layer, 10/10 samosa best thing I have eaten in a while even a day old. Will be visiting here next time I attend Arrowtown. Wow Mantra, you’ve really outdone yourself. What a samosa.
