Joined the enjoyable wine tour with our knowledgeable guide who hailed from Chile, another wine producing region. Got to look around the vineyards, fermentation tanks followed by a cave tour. Tasted a variety of delicious wines to go along Tried the lunch at the winery separately, food was good but a tad skimpy on portions. View all feedback.
What James H doesn't like about Gibbston Valley Winery:
Absolutely shocking. When four staff, including the general manager are too involved in their discussion to notice the customers, the warning sign should of been recognised. Best point was the cheap and horrendous decor, solely targeted at robbing tourists looking for wine tasting. Charcuterie platter relied on cheap supermarket meats and gherkins, cheese platter more suited to a bargain basement offering. Frozen chi... View all feedback.
We stayed two nights here, used their e-bikes(for a very reasonable fee , dined here for dinner and breakfast twice. 3 of us used the spa massage and two used the sauna and hot tub. The service at every location starting with the bike shed (Jorge hotel greeting (Gia? our 1st dinner server Vanessa, 1st breakfast gentleman server (did not get the silver haired man's name all were fantastic. Hustling but taking time to make certain you were satisfied with your drink as well as your meal, or your bike or your room. This is a 5-star resort if you value natural beauty, Michelin quality food and friendly caring service. The grounds are manicured and beautiful. Wild rabbits, ducks and their ducklings. Quiet and serene. I hope to return someday.
This place looks touristy, but don't be deceived, the service and the lunch were delicious. We had a great tasting and then were able to take a lovely bottle of wine over to the restaurant and for a nominal $10 corkage charge could enjoy the restaurant. It was a brilliant sunny day in early spring and the restaurant is only open 12-3, but we were fortunate to get a reservation and a lovely seat under a shady tree. The restaurant has a large outdoor section and an indoor one as well, but on a day like this outdoor is the place to be. Our server, Jane, was terrific and friendly and when we told her we only had an hour before our Cave Tour, she was super accommodating. We had a lovely half dozen oysters which were buttery and fresh. They were perfect with the mignonette and a little lemon. The mains were also great. We had a delicious lamb chop with lamb shank as well. This was a wonderful combination of meaty and savory tender at the same time. Went very well with Le Maitre we had just gotten from their shop. The cioppino was a great take on a traditional Italian dish, with wonderful local Green Lip mussels, local scallops and clams. Really great. Some others apparently have had poor service and poor foods, we didn't find this at all, we will be back!
We had a delicious lunch with wine tasting flights here! The food was excellent and we found a few wines we really liked, too! I had the free range chicken with tomatoes, green beans, and couscous the dish was very flavorful yet light. I had the single vineyard white wine tasting flight with my meal, and found the Red Shed Pinot Blanc and China Terrace Chardonnay to be fantastic. My husband had the fish of the day (Cod), which he quite enjoyed. He had the Purely Pinot tasting flight, and his favorites were the School House (with food) and Glenlee (without food) Pinot Noirs. The outdoor patio is a lovely setting to eat in, and the indoor dining area is quite pleasant too. The food and wine came out quickly. Our waitress, while sweet, was not very knowledgable about the wines, which was unfortunate and disappointing, given the location. Also, she forgot about us at the end of the meal, and took forever to take our credit card after bringing us the bill. Also, it was a bit frustrating that the free wifi they advertise wasn't working. Overall, food and drink wise, a very good spot!
We drove from Queenstown to Cromwell for the day. On the return trip we stopped at Gibbston winery restaurant. I had the pasta special for lunch. It was very good. The location is very good to sit outside and enjoy a leisurely lunch. We enjoyed our afternoon meal We visited in Mar 2017
We enjoyed the restaurant for lunch after our tour of the winery and it was lovely. I can see though from the photo of the Yelper who posted back in 2011 that the lunch option hasn't changed much because we had the EXACT SAME LUNCH! The wine tour is lovely and very interesting. The wine tasting had an excellent selection of whites and reds ranging in age. My favorite was meeting the winery dog, Sheeba, who made our visit feel like home. : Definitely recommend this vineyard if you are looking for interesting wines, nice dining, and a great tour!
