The New England Hotel Newie Brasserie

I attended the New England Hotel in Armidale on a work trip in May. I was pleased with the atmosphere until I was served by a middle aged blonde woman. She had a very negative attitude towards us. I didn’t want to think it was a race thing…. Although after seeing her service toward white regulars I was starting to think otherwise. This woman was blunt, arrogant and disrespectful towards my colleagues and I. I will never come back to this pub if she is to be there as I felt so unwelcome. Beers were great although she has ruined my whole experience.

The place was very out dated. And unclean. Tables were sticky and the chairs were all torn and very old. While sitting down for a drink there was a couple who had there dogs inside near the bar( not service dogs) the owners of the dogs aloud them to go and lick and sniff other patrons legs and feet while they where trying to order at the bar, and the staff did. Nothing about it. Then to top it off the dogs sat at the table when the food was brought out. Again the staff didn’t care at all. Was going to eat there but definitely not after seeing that. And the tables weren’t wiped after people left. Pretty disgusting really.

Thought this would be a good place to eat pub food. It was. The waitress worked hard to get to everyone and was fantastic. Nathan’s the Chef did a great job with the steaks. Thursday night 2 for 1 special made this the best buy. Thanks to all

Visited on a cold night. Was hoping for a warm, convivial atmosphere and good food based on reviews here. Overall I’d say it was ‘fine’. Pub looks great on the outside, a bit rundown inside. We entered through the pokies bar which was like any other pub in Australia. Re the restaurant, on the positive the food was pretty good, no complaints. On the not so great, it wasn’t hugely busy but the service was a bit lacking, we were cold in spite of the fire, and others in the restaurant kept their jackets on. Food was relatively pricey, getting up around the $30+ mark, which seems a lot for pub food. So overall, I wouldn’t go expecting to walk away raving but it’s quite nice pub food in a decent place.

This is a good spot to play pool or just have a drink and a chat with friends. Also they have good meals in the restaurant at the back.
