I passed by Luke's Joint a couple of weeks ago and witnessed him yelling at a female employee, questioning her intelligence in a very disrespectful manner. I've heard some negative comments about him from both former and current employees. If he truly values the community, then it's concerning that none of his staff seem to have a favorable opinion of him. I have decided that I will not eat there again; I believe we shouldn't support people like that.
Luke is a terrible employer. He frequently yells at his staff and shows them no appreciation. He puts on a facade of being a nice guy to give the impression that he cares about the community. I have never heard a single positive comment about him from any of the employees, and all the food at Luke’s restaurant is prepared in a microwave, as there are no ovens or burners on the premises.
During my recent visit to Arcata to tour the Humboldt State University campus with my daughter, we decided to grab lunch at Luke's Joint beforehand. Unfortunately, we spent too much time shopping in the town square and ended up in a bit of a time crunch. I chose to order the tomato basil soup to go, which was served in a cup with a lid, making it easy to enjoy on the run. Without a doubt, it was the best tomato basil soup I’ve ever had— and I've had my fair share! The delightful small chunks of tender tomato and fresh basil added a wonderful texture that made the soup truly exceptional. The staff was also friendly and engaging, which added to the overall experience.
I love Luke's Joint! My mom hadn't been there before, so we went for dinner last night and shared the Redwood Club and the Umami Salad. Both were absolutely amazing!
