China Red
Description
A standout dim sum destination in San Gabriel, notable for exceptional steamed radish cakes, generous shrimp dumplings and memorable desserts. The menu is broad and leans slightly upscale with reasonable yet higher-than-expected prices. The room is clean with a touch of luxury and prompt, efficient service, though staff can seem brusque and English service uneven. Practicalities: no dim sum carts, narrow driveway but a rear parking lot. Quality is mostly high but occasionally inconsistent—worth a visit for dim sum lovers seeking variety and elevated flavors.

This is a great local spot for dim sum, offering a wide variety of dishes. Everything we ordered was tasty, but I particularly recommend the House Special Rice Roll and the Crispy Cream Yam Ball. The only downside is that they don't use dim sum carts which can result in some dumplings cooling down and sticking together or adhering to the parchment paper in the containers. Our teapot also spilled a bit while pouring, making things a little messy. However, the service was prompt, and there were plenty of staff around to assist whenever we needed. The driveway is narrow, but there is a parking lot available in the back.
The venue itself is quite lovely—everything was clean and had a touch of luxury. The prices were slightly higher than I anticipated for coming so far east, but still lower than what I typically see closer to home. Overall, I found the pricing reasonable. The parking lot was large but seemed to be mostly full; however, I managed to find a spot quickly. Would I return? Absolutely! I would love to experience dining in at this place next time.
Great dim sum! As is typical with most authentic Chinese restaurants, the service is efficient but can feel lacking. On a busy Saturday, you'll need to be vocal to get the attention you need. However, at places like this, the focus is on food quality, and it certainly does not disappoint. The shrimp dumplings have a very thin wrapper and are generously filled with shrimp. The Siu Mai was also impressive, packed with meat and noticeably larger than what I've experienced at other dim sum spots.
Solid dim sum here. I ordered through Postmates which had a limited menu so I couldn't order some items like egg tarts. Other than that would recommend!
Couple of friends recommended this place because of its quality and variety of foods. I would say it's above average in comparison to other dim sum places, but nothing to write home about. The desserts would be the high light of the foods. I would rather goto lunasia for the price though.
