L'auberge Espagnole - Apt

Most important for me in a dining experience is ambiance. This outdoor cafe set in an intimate French square in Apt complete with Plane tree and fountain exceeds my physical ambiance requirement. Add a great sound system with music to match and there goes a couple of hours. Seating choices are from beach chairs to couches to tables. The food is tapas style, perfect for times when we were in the mood for light tasting or just deserts. Wines were local and more than reasonable. But ambiance is also about the restaurant staff and it’s patrons and over the course of 2 weeks at L’auberge we experienced the delightful diversity of Apt. Highly recommend. Here is how I saw the Square.

Food is of bad quality (very greasy and the chicken was cold). Service is extremely slow and chaotic. Owner was rude to us when we asked when we can place our order. We had to ask for the bill 3x. One of the tapas we ordered never came but it was still on the bill (and we asked for it to be removed).

We found this restaurant by chance and it was a great choice for lunch. It was so good we went back for dinner that same day!! Fabulous delicious food at a reasonable price. Service was friendly and personal. The paella was so good!! Definitely recommend.

The place is nice during spring summer but the food is not so good. The tapas are very poor, the quality too. The sea food was not washed as it should be

Service is nice, and for their sake, I wish I could stop here. But no! Food is simply just anything fried. Old shrimps, fried, old squids fried, cheese fried! A lump of bread fried and toasted with 1 slice of ham. Simply ****! After this, the adverts said 2 tapas 1 dessert and wine or coffe, 14€. Agree cheap, but the bill was very different. Don't go there!
