Half Shell Dockside - Apalachicola
Half Shell Dockside
Description
Tucked along Scipio Creek in Apalachicola, this casual waterfront eatery pairs scenic boat views and eclectic artwork with a seafood-forward menu—standouts include raw oysters, fried grouper and shrimp-and-grits. Outdoor, dog-friendly seating and wheelchair access add family appeal, and staff can be attentive and accommodating with dietary needs. Still, experiences vary: some guests praise stellar dishes and a buzzing atmosphere, while others report uneven food quality (cold fries, disappointing gumbo), occasional upselling and inconsistent service. Expect a moderately priced, charming spot with hit-or-miss execution.

The food was very good. I feel like our order (party of 8) may have been over looked because a few tables of 2, 3, 5 were sat after us but served before us. The staff were all very friendly but did not give any updates as to when our food would be coming out.
The food was decent, but I found it quite overpriced for what it was. Paying $16 for a plate of chicken fingers seems excessive. We didn't have to wait long for a table, but we ended up waiting nearly two hours for our burgers and chicken fingers. Our waitress came to our table only twice during that entire time, while she visited the tables around us numerous times. We heard her inform other tables that certain items were sold out, but we were left uninformed until it was too late. Everyone at our table received their meals, except for one person. The waitress simply told them, "Oh, that's because it's sold out. Would you like a shrimp plate instead?" Three of our meals had mistakes, but at that point, we didn’t want to risk asking for corrections after such a long wait. If we were in a location with more dining options, we probably would have left. While we would like to return to the area, we've definitely noted a place we won't be dining at again if we do.
Went for lunch and had a delicious dish of raw oysters on the half-shell. My husband tried the steak and blue cheese salad and loved it.The place has a unique atmosphere with cool artwork and a lovely backdrop overlooking Scipio Creek.Service was friendly, prompt and non-intrusive.It's a bit off the beaten path, but we'll worth a visit.
