Ate breakfast back in April and was not impressed. The service on the outside deck was lacking and it was chilly in the shade. I small heater would have made a difference. View all feedback.
Although the reviews were mixed, we decided to try this place based on the few good reviews and the view. We walked in and there was one table seated, otherwise no one else was there. We waited about 5 minutes and another couple came in behind us. We both waited at the hostess stand for another few minutes and saw no one. I eventually had to go to the kitchen and found the hostess leaned up talking to the other staff. I politely asked if we were to seat ourselves and she hastily said no and went to seat both us and the other couple. We waited a little bit longer and finally had a waitress come. This is when the visit started to get better: she took our drink orders and quickly got us fresh squeezed OJ which was delicious and waters. We ordered and got our food pretty quick. I had a normal American breakfast with bacon, grits, and eggs. My boyfriend got a breakfast poboy and breakfast potatoes. The regular American breakfast was okay, the eggs weren't cooked as well as I asked but it was close. The bacon was okay. Grits were very good. The poboy was very good and the potatoes were some of the best I've had. They had peppers and some very delicious seasoning. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you just want the view and have a lot of time to waste because you might be waiting awhile. Would be a 2 but the orange juice and potatoes gained this review another star.

This place is right on the Apalachicola River. The decor leaves a bit to be desired, but the view is breathtaking. Lots of boat traffic and the occasional sea otter to keep your interest. Food has to be REALLY GOOD or I have to be REALLY HUNGRY for me to take a snap right in the middle of eating it. These Apalachicola Bay oysters were PERFECT. Like little bites of ocean. Perfect sized and shucked to perfection... No ripping tearing to get at them. Homemade salad dressings (Bleu cheese thousand island) were terrific! I had Grouper Therapy with the panhandle grouper. It was stuffed with blue crab and had a sherry cream sauce. Wow! Make your tongue slap your brains out! And the garlic mashed potatoes were exceptional. Wife had blue crab corn bisque. SPECTACULAR! Fresh and succulent and not a shell piece to be found. And the applewood bacon wrapped oysters were heavenly. If you're in this area from Mexico Beach to St George Island you need to try this spot!
Okay it 's Sunday morning of the first day of our Apalch (St George Island) vacation and it is pouring rain cats and dogs and we want view, food and fun. Went to Carolines and requested to sit outdoors in the riverside screened gazebo on the dock. Perfect place to be on a rainy Florida morning. The hostess asked us to wait while she grabbed a rag and then seated us in the gazebo. All southerners know the rag is a wet cloth to wipe down the table. It was homey to us dispaced southerners but might offend others with more delicate sensibilities. Service was friendly and if you asked for something you eventually got it but it was excruciatingly slow even by laidback southern standards. It is evidently quite a hike from the dock, up the steps, into the dining room and to the kitchen and back. Breakfast took almost two hours. The menu is imaginative and the food good not great. I had the fried grouper, nice fillet, lightly battered, and perhaps pan fried (no sign of greasiness) and the cathead biscuit was as good as my wife 's and that is saying something. She had eggs benedict made with a cathead biscuit with sautéed shrimp and hollandaise. Good not great. Go there on a Sunday morning if you haven 't a care (or a watch) in the world and just enjoy the great coffee and the view.
I should have read a few reviews prior to going and wasting money. After waiting for 10 minutes to be seated seeing most tables were empty we waiting another 30 to be told that we were not noticed and soooo sorry Most items were not available with the server returning to explain the substitute was also not available Don't waste your money
