Anopoli Taverna

Alaskan first time in Crete. First of all the staff are exceptional with detailed knowledge of the dishes, ingredients and recommendations. All of the food, breakfast and dinner is as fresh and delicious as it gets. The mountain atmosphere is so tranquil and quiet. We booked only one night but just had to extend for one more. Costas (he manages the taverna) found last minute accomodations for us. Next time we will book several nights. I cannot wait to return. Costas, you are the best! We stayed for unfortunately only one night at the madares apartments, which belong to this tavern. It was a great experience. The apartments are practically new, stylish and spacious, something we did not expect in this rural part of crete. Dinner and breakfast at the tavern, which seems to be a meeting point for hikers from all over the world, were fabulous. Traditional fare, locally sourced, very tasty and better than in the seaside resorts. For our hike down to Agios Roumeli the owner gifted us a bottle of his white wine with the instruction to not consume it before reaching the beach (for security reasons a very sensible advice).
