Description

Tianchu, a gem in Ann Arbor, offers an enticing mix of authentic North-Eastern Chinese and Sichuan cuisine. While some dishes may miss the mark, such as the disappointing Taiwanese sausage fried rice, the restaurant shines with standout options like mapo tofu and Chongqing spicy chicken. Diners appreciate the casual atmosphere and friendly staff, who are eager to assist. The vibrant flavors, generous portions, and home-cooked feel make it a favorite for those seeking bold tastes. Though the interior may be modest and health protocols inconsistent, the rich, comforting food makes Tianchu a must-visit for Asian cuisine enthusiasts.

I ordered Taiwanese Sausage Fried rice, and it is an understatement to say that I am disappointed. The rice was not even fried? Looks like regular steamed rice, maybe not even washed? I added a photo of a bag of frozen cubed carrots and peas as a comparison of what is in my “fried” rice because I am pretty sure this is exactly what went into my “Taiwanese sausage fried rice” the biggest piece of egg I’ve eaten in this dish was smaller than the hair on my toes. The main selling point of this dish is supposed to be the fancy sounding Taiwanese sausage, however, this is definitely a regular a*s hotdog was maybe toasted in an air fryer in my college dorm. This is the poorest representation of a fried rice dish I have ever seen, and even I could make a more authentic fried rice dish in my run down college house with a budget of 10 dollars. Never come here for your own sanity.

I've been here for years! very friendly staff with the best Sichuan food in the state. be kind, because English is their second language. geduld pays off! I recommend the mapo tofu and stir fried beans.

The red bean milk tea is deliciously sweet, and I can't wait to come back for more! The bibimbap is incredible as well, and I definitely want to try that again. The dining experience here is excellent, with no wait for a table. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Ann Arbor. I highly recommend checking it out if you're hungry, as I enjoyed a lot of fantastic food. The restaurant has a casual Asian diner vibe, and I believe Tianchu is uniquely owned and operated—truly a standout in Ann Arbor!
