What User doesn't like about Grumpy Goat Tavern Ankeny:
We had a party of 10 to celebrate family birthdays. We love the food here but the service gets worse every time we go. The waitress was not content to our table. Most of the time we couldn't spot her and when we did she was busy socializing to others. We waited on our food and drinks sat empty for way too long and we had to ask multiple times about some of our food that was missing or messed up. We ordered desert, got... View all feedback.
We stopped at the Grumpy Goat in Ankeny on our way to the airport to drop off our sons. We had intended to eat at a couple of other places but they were fully booked for Mother's Day. My son remarked that the fact that the Grumpy Goat was only half full should have been a red flag. Upon looking at the menu, my wife was interested in ordering the cheese bites but was taken aback by the steep price of $17.50. We decided to skip that and my son ordered the Elvis Burger, only to be disappointed that they were out of bacon. We found it unacceptable for a restaurant to be out of basic ingredients like bacon. I opted for the Root Beer Burger, which was decent but the bun-to-burger ratio was off. To make matters worse, the price we were charged was double what was listed on the menu. Our other son ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, but was disappointed by the small portion size and lack of flavor. My wife and I decided to skip ordering altogether and eat in Des Moines after dropping off our sons at the airport. After two beers, a salad, and an average burger, we were left with a bill of $72. We recommend saving your time and money and dining elsewhere.
Would not recommend. The food quality does not match the high prices. The atmosphere us not entirely friendly as I've seen customers allowed to over drink. If the prices were a bit less or quality better, that would be lovely. If the atmosphere felt safer (as a woman) I might give it another chance. I've tried both locations now. Do not recommend.
Prices are so insane, we decided just to grab a round and head out... $16.50 for just fries French fry flight and cheese bites for $17.50 Our server was fantastic though- personable, patient, kind!!
Holy expensive! $18 for chicken strips appetizer???? $18 for a burger??! WOW. Service was fine once we finally got served and food quality was good but can't get over lunch for 3 no drinks no appetizers (had chicken strips as a meal) no desserts the bill was over $60 Hate to say it but might have to look for other lunch options in Ankeny.
Our waiter was awesome and friendly, gave us very good service. Food was ok, but we've had better from there?? The pizza's we ordered basically had no sauce and very dry. All the other food was real good.Food: 4/5
