We unexpectedly had an opportunity to spend a weekend in Angers, and after a quick Google search, we found Les Petits Pres! We were so fortunate to have being able to book a table for the Saturday evening we were in Angers. Les Petits Pres was an absolutely fabulous find. As soon as you walk into the courtyard (which was also the alfresco dining area , the vibe was present. The ambience was welcoming and enjoyable. The only down side of the alfresco dining area (like most restaurants in France , is that it was also a smoking area, however we asked to be seated away from the smoking area, although the smoke did drift our way occasionally. We had ‘several’ courses over the evening, and each course was fabulous, along with a comprehensive wine list on offer. Our meal started with fresh wholemeal baguettes, rice tuffs, burrata and tomatoes in basil oil, and for my main meal I had the sea bass with the best white potato mash I’ve ever eaten (and I’m not usually a fan of potato mash! Hubby had the Peruvian ribeye steak (which was a very generous serve with a side dish of summer ratatouille vegetables. The service was excellent and the bi-lingual staff were fluent in English. Highly recommend Les Petits Pres.
We arrived with a reservation in hand. We were led upstairs to a side room. Next time we will tell the waitress or waiter who took our reservation that we would like to be in the main dining room (lighter, brighter . We ordered the dishes from a charming waiter. We were here before and we got 2 tiny apps from the house. But we were told that today only “menu dègustation” guests got this treat because they ran out. Well, the purchasing department is here at fault! The apps we ordered (crunchy shrimps with a tasty sauce and poached egg in a crispy nest were very good! Farm raised chicken (or was it turkey? and roasted salmon with a miso sauce (could have been a bit more generous; the sauce I meant were good as well. The accompanying dishes: mushrooms and French fries. The first one was very tasty indeed. But the French fries: not very good (hardly salted but that’s not bad but they were too limpy (in French: trop molle . This is the oil in which they are fried. This oil needs to be hot and changed every day. Not often restaurants do comply with this rule number 1! Desserts: a new dessert called “coing honey” was tasty and the 2nd one: a fog tart was beautifully presented and tasty as well. Along with a Anjou red served from a real bottle 50 cl for 20 euros: very good too The bill for 2 came to 110 euros. For this price I might expect next time better fries, I hope!
Service was excellent, a lovely friendly waiter great location the food was fantastic. We all chose different meals and we were all very impressed. We will definitely be back.
A sure value on all products! Excellent breads, pastries, pies and cakes!!! It's very nice to always be satisfied, both by what you buy there and by the way you are welcomed. Out of 15 croissants tasted in 15 different bakeries in Angers, these are the best for us. THANKS !
