Sheehy's Anchor Down is a restaurant located in Dingle, the most important one in Dingle Penensula. We came here to have dinner last October and we could eat a soup of the day and a home made fisherman's pie, which were very good. Also we drank a Golden Ale beer from West Kerry Brewery, which is not so far from here. Very nice place, decoration and food.
I'm surprised to see such rave reviews. Everywhere we've gone in Ireland we've been treated to excellent hospitality. Until we went to Sheehy's...We were greeted by a grumpy waitress who gave us the worst table in the house even though there were lots of open tables. When she brought us menus, they were out of shrimp and calamari and mussels and other fish. I ordered the Seafood Chowder which was good, but my husband got the Fish Pie, which looked like exactly the same thing with potatoes on top for way more money.
I dined here with a group this week and discovered a true hidden gem in Dingle. The menu offers a wonderful variety of fresh seafood options. Everyone in our group loved their dishes. The portions were generous, the flavors exquisite, and the staff exceptionally welcoming. I would highly recommend Anchor Down and look forward to returning.
Sheehy’s Anchor Down restaurant is tucked away down a short side road off The Strand, in an unassuming location. We arrived without a reservation and were met by a waitress who seemed less than thrilled to accommodate two extra guests. Despite several empty four-person tables, as a couple, we were seated at the least desirable spot by a shelf used for food delivery from the kitchen. This placed one of us facing a blank wall. After receiving menus, we were told two dishes were unavailable, and we later discovered the local beer was also out of stock. The two waitstaff appeared tired rather than welcoming or friendly. I ordered the seafood chowder (€7.95), which was a generous and hearty portion, though the flavors didn’t meld as well as other chowders I’ve enjoyed in Ireland. My partner enjoyed his soup (€6.50) and appreciated his breaded sole with chips (€17.95), which was clearly a better choice than my hake (€19.50), which was bland and somewhat dry. The hake came with a salty potato gratin and vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, and a few carrots) that had been cooked earlier but were served at room temperature. Including three beers, our bill came to €68.90. While I didn’t expect gourmet dining at that price, the overall experience left me somewhat disappointed.
