You can hire a small boat to traverse these canals which end to end would stretch 65km ( the trip is shorter ) , to get a duck's perspective - or you can just follow the old tow path along the north bank , Chemin de Halage , to get to Le Vert Gallant - The Green Knight . This place hosted an early Anzac Eve function in 2011 , hosted by the Australian Government , but our group stayed into the evening . As a venue for having a few quiet ( and cold ! ) beers in the spring twilight , it was very agreeable , and the staff were obliging as well . There are several accounts floating around of the appeal of this little area to the diggers of 100 years ago, so it is worth sampling yourself for a few quiet ones .
