What User doesn't like about Hoppy's Cantina:
We appreciate that there are viable options for the vegans, but it is not clearly marked on the menu that you charge for the vegan cheese and crema $3 per item. The shares were very small as very small) and the prices were very high. We had to pay extra for the chips that did not taste or how they were made in the house. Lime was a very overwhelming taste in guacamole and salsa as well as the tofu shell. I think this... View all feedback.
As for the food, I’ll give them some credit. The scotch egg was fantastic; just make sure to request the barbecue sauce on the side, as it's really unnecessary. The three tacos I ordered were good, but they weren't as generously filled as depicted in the pictures, given the size of the shells. Now, for the disappointing part: in a cantina, salsa and guacamole should always be fresh, zesty with lime, and well salted. Unfortunately, what I received seemed to be from a jar. I had high hopes for the pork belly, expecting it to be lightly charred and salted to enhance its sweetness. A side dipping sauce is fine, but the barbecue sauce on top overwhelmed the dish's flavor, resulting in something that tasted more like BBQ ham. I don’t want to conclude on a negative note because the service was excellent. Given that it was later in the evening, perhaps it was just an off night for the kitchen. First impressions are crucial in this industry, and based on the service, I'm willing to give them a second chance.
The food here is of excellent quality! They often have amazing specials, such as smoked beef brisket. You definitely need to try their Campfire Margarita!
The margaritas here are fantastic, and the food is delicious. The steak tacos are particularly flavorful as well.
The food is good enough, but a little pricey for the portions, especially apps. The exception is the burrito. Owner is friendly and chatty. Not recommended for families with young children, as the conversations and music can be inappropriately adult (and I'm no prude, but my daughter was uncomfortable so I won't bring her back if I return). It's more of a bar feel, and I would recommend for mature folk. Not really for a quiet night out. Margaritas are delicious and make up for the limited alcohol selection.Kid-friendliness: Not very kid friendly depending on music rotation and other customers as you're always in earshot of the bar , and inappropriate dialogue seems encouraged by staff. They do, however, have a kid's menu.
