A friend and I stayed at Monverde during April 2018 for five nights in a Superior Bath room. We cannot state enough how much we enjoyed our stay. We decided not to rent a car so that we could explore wineries without having to worry about driving. We secured transportation to and from the Porto Airport with Monverde staff. In fact, we used our airport driver for all of our transportation needs: A visit to Amarante, the Monverde vinification center in Vila Cova da Lixa, and a trip to the Douro River Valley. The staff at Monverde patiently answered all of our pre arrival e mails and we secured wine and spa experiences prior to our arrival. The spa is on the smaller side but has everything one needs for an enjoyable half day/day: indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam and lovely treatments. Each morning we were quite excited for breakfast eggs, meats, sausage, pork, cheeses, yogurt, granola, fruits, fresh juices and the best part Quinta da Lixa's dry sparkling wine! We had a bottle delivered to our room every afternoon. I look forward to coming back to Monverde during a future trip to Portugal. Thank you for making our stay so very wonderful! Linda Marcia
We loved our room and it's fantastic view. We have enjoyed our meals in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet offered a good selection. We also did a wine tasting where we learnt a lit and had 3 wines paired with food.

We were amazed at the number of waiters and the lack of service. When we arrived for our reservation, we were not acknowledged even though the maitre d' walked by several times, without acknowledging the four couples standing there. Dinner service was uneven. No one waiter took responsibility for our table which meant that nobody paid attention to us. Waiters would avert their eyes when we tried to get their attention. We had to ask several times for the bill. The food was very good and the seating was comfortable although the outdoor tables need more light.
Perfect moment and dîner at monverde ! Thank you so much for all. Ambiance, dîner, view, propre working here are amazing. We love to come back !
The wait staff was very attentive, our waiter spoke good English, the food was very good and the views from the restaurant were beautiful. All in all, an excellent experience. It was somewhat pricier than other restaurants in the area, but worth the extra money.
Service was a disaster we finally walked out. Food (from a stay three days ago) was good to very good. Arrived at appointed time, asked to sit on couch for 1/2 hour with nothing to drink, asked by the Maitre three times for our room number, then finally seated. Another half hour later still unable to place first order. We’d had enough, drove into town. Same senior person did all the seating (including large wedding party) and was the only person taking orders. He’s running frantically, lots of servers standing around looking very uncomfortable. When asked, can’t help, have to wait for direction. Room not close to capacity. Chaos. Sad, could be so good!

The restaurant is aiming very high but failed to deliver. The food in such an hotel and with such aspirations should be much better. For example the amuse de botch soup had a problem with its texture. In The shrimp dish the shrimps were dry. The fish was mediocre same was the desert. The only good dish was the lamb ribs.
Great service, great atmosphere, delicious deserts. If you are a vegetarian don’t expect it to be the meal of your life. But it for sure a place worth to stop at if you in the area. I’ll be back to stay at the hotel and enjoy all the facilities once again!
Went there on a family lunch and the place looks amazing! Well integrated in the vineyard it 's an idyllic place for some great relaxing holidays. The restaurant is nice although a bit impersonal. It lacks that home feeling on a winery restaurant. Having no idea on what to eat, except that I wanted fish, i decided to challenge the Chef and eat what ever he would decide to give. As soon as I mentioned this to the waiter, he turned white and shoot a can I be the one suggesting? We all got the feeling that he was a bit afraid to go inside with this weird request. He suggested the Crispy Octopus and it was really great! Our invitees got the feeling that the Chef has changed since their last-week dinner. For desert we got the Revolto de Chocolate (Chocolate trio) that was fantastic!! The issues were the lack of staff, although those on duty were very professional and, the most shocking one was that the wine that was served was taken from the wine stand to our table and was too hot. I think they should invest in a acclimatized cellar in order to serve the wines in their ideal temperature. That for sure would change the experience! We are talking about a winery restaurant...
Our experience could have been much better, it's a shame. We started with a glass of wine in the bar area with Joseph the bar server. Joseph actually poured my husband a taste of the wine before he decided it agreed with his palate; all was good in the bar. Then we went to a table for dinner. Initially service was good. Joao was the one server who had a party of 3, a party of 1, and 4 tables of 2 (12 people total . My husband's entree of guinea fowl was very good, he very much enjoyed it. The soup he had was also very good. I had ordered a pesto linguine. It had flavor of course being pesto, but it was extremely dry; not a drop of oil on the bottom of the plate. I hardly ate any and waited for Joao to come by and ask how everything was; he never did. After 5 minutes (minimum we got the busboy's attention, Helder (sp. ? to help us; which he did the rest of our stay in the dining room. Helder got Joseph to come over and replenish our glasses with a 2nd glass of wine each. He took my plate back to the kitchen where he spoke with the chef. Joao in the meantime ignored us while he chatted endlessly with the 2 people at the table behind us. It was Helder who brought us our check and took our money; he/the manager also waived the cost of my linguine. Helder should be promoted to server. Not sure why any chef would serve such a dry linguine, it was so obvious. But the lack of attention from Joao was unacceptable to me.
Great dinner. Service, bar area, food all great. Very relaxing place and great staff! wine choices were good and the quality of the food is very good. Rack of Lamb was fantastic. creative and well presented. Even gave us desert for our 30th anniversary. After a few hours travel it was great to relax in our hotel and restaurant. Bar area for drinks before was very well done. Friendly people and would go back again.

The food, wine, presentation and service were all excellent! The wine pairing was well matched to the food and gave us the opportunity to taste some of what the winery has to offer. Our group had a wonderful evening.
The service was a disaster we finally got out. Food (from the stay three days ago) was too good. At the time of appointment, asked to sit on the couch for 1/2 hour with nothing to drink, asked by Maitre three times for our room number, then finally sitting. Another half an hour later not yet able to place first order. We had enough, drove into town. The same older person made all seats (including a big wedding party) and was the only person who made orders. It runs French, many servers stand around and look very unpleasant. If asked, can't help, have to wait for direction. Rooms not close to capacity. Chaos. Sad, could be so good!
The views were amazing but the food was uninspired. The menu was too varied for the chefs to actually nail a dish correctly. For the price it was not justified.
