While traveling throughout Puglia with Classic Journeys, we spent the most delightful afternoon at Masseria la Calcara making lunch, eating lunch, seeing how cheese is made and exploring their farm. The owners, Maria and Nino are fantastic. As you can imagine, with a group of 13, there were several dietary needs, all of which they accommodated. The roasted veggies were to die for! Everything came from their garden and/or farm. A wonderful experience. Don't miss it!

Maria and her son, donato, have done an excellent job today (1 October 2019). the meal, the several antipasti, pasta, main dish of lamb and sausage, and dolce was fantastic. all the ingredients were fresh, and most of them were raised. the cultivar. after the meal donato has us on a hike through her farm/nose. the whole experience was great.

In approx. 6 km from the town of altamura, immersed in the bounty landscape beauty of the puglia la calcara building, built around 1800. it is an agricultural farm where sheep and goats are raised in the most natural way to produce the best natural cheese products of the best quality. the facility also has various rooms that are furnished in a bad art style, where visitors can feel comfortable and hug in a rustic rural environment, away from any kind of city noises that immerse themselves in a total silence. the facility houses rural tourism and retreats for people and businesses who want to recharge, restore and rejuvenate. while I was there to visit, a delicate aroma from the kitchen filled our senses. They cooked typical Puglia land food and judged by the smell that I can say that eating would be divine! the plant, the animal farm, the cheese production and the rooms are kept immaculate. the owner gaetano is a lovely person, very friendly and hospitable and all the people I met this day in the masseria la calcara, greeted us with a big smile. valentina interior architect
