Two times I try this restaurant... two different experiences. The first experience, I tried the Bife à Toca, which is a specific dish of this restaurant, and it was quite OK, although too many sauce for my personal taste... This week, I have been again in this place, and this time we tried different plates... both meat and fish... the grilled meat and fish were quite OK... but the potatoes were not OK at all (french fries brown... and boiled potatoes tasty bad)... it was not the best experience I would say... Hope you have better luck. Enjoy!
Beside many restaurants we decided to this one since the waiter was very kind and friendly when he saw us. he recommend us a food on good english so we took pork on the hanging stick and cod fish. the both was good, my cod fish was in a bit too much olive oil, don’t know if that needs to be oily like that or not but it was good.
With 10 persons after visiting Lisbon we had a Dina in A Toca. The menu is spread. Fish, pork, beef or chicken, grilled or backed, with family no problem to find for each one a perfect dish. Locally food includes. Better value for the price an maybe you should just add the boat to the price.
Great service of beautifully fresh food, seafood especially. The octopus was amazing , first time of trying it and it was thoroughly enjoyed. One of our party is vegetarian and were offered a choice of dishes too. Vihno Verde was well chilled and delicious.
First, the high point: I had their polvo lagareiro for lunch today (a Thursday). This dish is a staple of Portuguese restaurant menus pretty much nation-wide. This restaurant's version of it was among the best I've ever had. The olive oil based sauce was competently done but nothing special. However A Toca beautifully presented a whole, small octopus, intact. Both the pre-boiling and the grilling were accomplished perfectly. It was served on a bed of broccoli and potato, and topped with a garnish sauteed peppers and onions. I've never had the dish (a favourite of mine) prepared better. At €11 for the main dish, it was also excellent value for money. The menu only listed hose wines. However the small jug of house vinho verde went down well enough. Bear in mind that this restaurant is on a pedestrian street leading to and from the Lisbon ferry. It's tourist mecca. At lunch I had to listed to an obnoxious American complaining to his wife about how the establishment was trying to rip him off by politely offering them a couvert. After cross-examining the waiter about a half-dozen menu items, the man proceeded to smoke a cigarette before his meal arrived, and the to empty the salt shaker he'd asked for over the bacalhau without first tasting it. The experience was a bit depressing. I'm not aware of anywhere better to eat in Cacilhas than A Toca.
