Sal's Pizza Company - Algonquin
Sal's Pizza Company
Description
Sal’s Pizza, a staple in the Algonquin area, garners both praise and criticism. While many laud its creative offerings, like the stuffed pizza bursting with flavor, others find fault in their ingredient choices, such as canned mushrooms and overpowering sauces. Price points have also sparked debate; some customers feel they’re paying premium for uneven quality. Despite this, the restaurant has built a loyal customer base over the years, with its meatball pizza and ribs often cited as standout items. Overall, Sal's continues to be a local favorite, though expectations should be tempered.

I have placed large pizza orders for parties here multiple times. I call earlier in the day and they have always delivered it right at the time i requested. The pizza is still hot and fresh by the time it gets to my house. My guests always ask where the pizza is from because they all like it so much Service: Delivery Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5

I had high hopes for this pizza after reading so many positive reviews, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. My biggest disappointment was the use of canned mushrooms—arguably one of the worst choices you can make for a pizza. Fresh, quality ingredients are essential for good pizza, and this detail made a noticeable difference. The sausage also missed the mark, with an overpowering fennel flavor that overwhelmed the rest of the toppings. To make matters worse, the crust was a bit too thick, resulting in a dry and unappealing texture. On a slightly brighter note, the pepperoni pizza fared better than the sausage and mushroom option, but overall, I was left underwhelmed. Another downside was the price. A large two-topping pizza and a medium one-topping pizza totaled $63 with delivery—and that didn’t even include the tip. While I understand that inflation has impacted prices everywhere, for pizza of this quality, I would have expected to pay at least $20 less. I wouldn’t completely write off this place, as some menu items might fare better (like the pepperoni), but I’d recommend avoiding any pizzas with vegetable toppings. For now, it feels like you’re paying premium prices for a product that doesn’t quite live up to the hype.
