A quaint restaurant with mixed reviews so we thought we would try. Small selection of food on offer. Buchetta was lovely, the only fish dish was very nice and came with vegetables and potatoes. The steak was a good piece but very weirdly they decided to put a bag of ready salted crisps on the plate ! Portuguese steak comes with thin cut potatoes not a bag of walkers crisps! When questioned they said that is how it comes, well that’s not ! Strange place and not sure it’s for tourists! Service was fine and price seemed ok until the steak came out !!
The food to be fair is tasty, but and it's a big but it's pricey and the portion sizes are small. Also they got our order wrong and looked shocked when we told them to take it away and bring what we ordered. The service wasn't great, wouldn't bother going back. Plus when we got back to the villa we got some more food out we were still hungry.
We were familar with Henrique, the Propietor and Chef, from his earlier work at Dom Denis and it took us too long to visit him in O Amigo. We were not disappointed. The food was wonderful, not cheap, but you expect to pay for quality like this. Among the dishes our group were Panko Prawns, alheira Croquettes, piri piri Chicken Croquettes, vegetarian croquettes, bruschetta and the fabulous pork cheek with mash. The desserts were fantastic to Toblerone mousse is excellent. A decent wind and good service make this a must to grab a taxi and travel from the city.
We are here several times and never disappointed by the unusual tapas. This time, we started with a soup and orange pottery that were delicious. We had a main course of fillet beef with potatoes and vegetables. The meat was absolutely perfect. Finally, I had my favorite desert the Toblerone chocolate mousse. A fantastic meal. Yeah, it's not cheap, but the quality is excellent.
