Guests appreciate the warm service and inviting atmosphere, particularly enjoying the affordable carvery, hailed for its exquisite beef. However, some report inconsistent meal quality, with issues ranging from dry meats to overcooked vegetables and hard Yorkshire puddings. Yet, highlights include attentive staff who go above and beyond, ensuring a pleasant visit for families and individuals alike. While opinions vary, the restaurant’s budget-friendly options and commendable service invite return visits despite occasional missteps in meal preparation.
I highly recommend the hot porker pizza. The service was great and the value is amazing. The kids loved the brownie and ice cream.
Once again, the service at this restaurant was excellent. A special shoutout to Chef Alex for preparing a dessert, even though I forgot to order it. He allowed it to arrive with the other dishes while I went up to pay. It was great thinking on his part and ensured that there were no disappointed kids at the table.
Our family of 8 met up for a get- together lunch. We were welcomed by Clare and were seated at our table. Clare took our order and served us and was really attentive. At no time did we feel pressured. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and agreed that next time we were all together we would definitely use the Royal George again.
Definitely the worst roast I have ever had. Everything was dried out, the frozen Yorkshire puddings were rock hard, and when the fresh vegetables were brought out, the rest of the food was cold. The gravy was full of congealed lumps. The waitress was lovely and helped sort out the bill, but I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant.
The George is a little tired but fine if you know what you're getting. The service (Sue) was friendly enough and the atmosphere was pleasant without being lively. I had the traditional carvery meal ... pork, beef and lamb with veg. There was more than enough to eat but I found the meat a little dry ... the lamps in the carvery made the serving spoons very hot to hold, so maybe they could be turned down a little. For the price, my friend and i would return.
