Don Luis Cafe - Abilene

The main reason I'm giving this place a single star is due to the utter lack of customer service. When we were being seated, the host mentioned it was happy hour and mentioned half-price drinks, which caught our attention. He then asked if we would like to see the bar menu in addition to the regular menu. However, when it came time to pay, our server informed us that there were no happy hour or drink specials on weekends. Most of us only ordered drinks with our dinner because we thought it was happy hour. They acknowledged the misunderstanding, but I believe that in such a situation, especially when multiple guests recount the same details, the right thing to do would have been to honor it, particularly given the other issues we encountered. We were a group of 10, so I understand that larger parties can take longer. However, we still had to wait at least 10 minutes to be seated, even though we had called ahead to prepare a table for us and the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. After finally being seated, we ordered the supposed half-price drinks and then… waited. And waited. And waited. After we had settled in and our entire party was present, a group of about 20 people arrived, and they were seated, served, and out the door in about an hour. Our food didn’t even arrive until that larger group was leaving; we sat down at 5:30 and didn’t get our meals until nearly 7. We had to rush our meal because we had plans at 7:30. In short, the entire experience was disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place—you’ll regret it!

Everything was really good from the start. Service was prompt. Chips and tea were very good. The beef Chili rellanos ordered with cheese sauce. Maybe the best at all. Beans were excellent. Very impressed. Come back with friends!

I had the pleasure of meeting the owners today, and they are incredibly friendly and genuinely care about both their business and their customers. While I’ve dined at the Baird Texas location, I hadn’t visited the Abilene site until today. I tried the food from Abilene and was tempted to buy their homemade cheese sticks—they're absolutely delicious! I’ve always loved their enchiladas as well. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine where the owners truly take care of their customers, this is the place to go.

I will never understand how the best Cuban restaurant in which I was is the most famous for its burgers and pommes on Saturday. Half price appetizers up to 6 per day, the egg rolls are my new addiction. Stuffed Avacados are fantastic, but that's all I've tried.

Yum! Queso is one of the better ones I found here, it's not papacitos, but it's good. Salsa was on point, great taste, and not super sharp. Rice and beans were good. The enchilada sauce wasn't my favorite, but it was OK. Taco was good. The Friday special Margarita was delicious!! And let me tell you our server was AMAZING!! Thank you. I can't wait to go back
