We had lunch... read more I would concur with Michelin 's description of the food at La Becasse as pared-back, no-fuss classic cuisine scattered with a few modern touches . We had lunch so the choice was more limited than dinner but it was clear that the principle was to keep fairly close to a traditional French model and steer clear of originality or experimentation. For us, the experience didn 't meet our expectations from a Michelin star restaurant. The bread was standard baguette even if it was homemade. The caesar salad was too large, smothered in dressing and lacked the anchovies which give it character. My pluma iberico was tasty but forgettable and my partner 's cod was beautifully cooked but accompanied by an uninspiring, albeit delicious, mash. Dousing a simple sorbet entremet in polish vodka did little to elevate this palate cleanser beyond banal. The wine list was diverse if lacking in surprises. Service was competent though not particularly polished and pacing was about right for lunchtime. We didn 't particularly like the decor, featuring as it did, a lot of naff 007 James Bond images. However, the thing I most objected to was the soft-porn imagery in the gents which, thankfully, I am told was not replicated in the ladies ' facilities. All in all, a perfectly nice place to have lunch but if you want a true Michelin standard meal (and are prepared to pay for it), a trip to Maastricht and environs might suit you better.

The staff is attentive, non pretentious, and forthcoming. The ambience is pleasant and upbeat. Last but not least, the food is Michelin star worthy.

Prices are steep, but we enjoyed our sweetbread, duck and hake. The service is in a good tempo (at dinner), but one thing was really strange: why have women's explicit pictures in the men's restroom? Really unappropriate. Also not suitable for vegetarians.
