What Helga Schulte doesn't like about Cornelium:
I had bought a Groupon voucher for this restaurant valued 80€: a dinner for 2 with asparagus menu. All we got was a salad and a main. Obviously wine, water, coffee and dessert (which we didn't have) were to be paid separately. The wine was below average and we still had to pay 40€ on top of a voucher (50cl wine, since we came by car-not even a bottle!)! Food was ok, nothing exceptional, not too much, not too little-r... On 08.01.2016 visits with a voucher about oecherdeal for a court goose bump with red cabbage and dumplings. the first impression from outside was "where is the entrance? are we actually right here?"When you go in, you have to be careful not to jump up or fall down. service friendly and accommodating (they took us and hanged us off) unfortunately spoke very quietly and you could not always understand them and that although we were the only guests at the time. it was just before 18 o'clock and the tables were not yet properly and badly covered. we lacked the serviettes, but they were handed down. card has been served for any appetizer. selection was not really convincing and the prices too high. would have liked a limo, was not in stock and had to decide something else. then came the Couvert bread: dry, thin-cut baguette, unfortunately not fresh and a simple piece of cold butter. to the main dish: for my conditions too fast served, for that everything should be freshly prepared. gänsekeule zäh, skin crispy or dried out, rotkohl although self-made, unfortunately, I had to find out a variety of flavors when eating because I had already bitten it. is not really delicious when the taste is no longer going away. the dumplings had the typical grisly of purchased finished product. for me, it was sedative of eating. dessert could only be offered tiramisu, which we thankfully rejected. bill without address-headed conclusion: even with a good note I would no longer go.
We dined at the Cornelium with a large family party and had a set menu of two different starters (vitello tonnato and gambas) and two different mains: salmon with curry spaghetti and duck with vegetables. The curry spaghetti and salmon worked surprisingly well together. The quality of the food was really good (juicy salmon, delicious sauce, crispy duck, nice gambas) and we enjoyed every bite. The black and white mousse we had as a dessert was ok. The atmosphere is nice in a very old building. It is way outside of Aachen so you do need a car to get there. If you are staying in Kornelimünster it is an easy walk from anywhere in the town centre. There are a few parking spots near the restaurant. We definitely go there again and try their a la carte menu.
I never write a restaurant criticism and above all no bad, but the restaurant visit in the cornelium has made my man and me unconstitutional. we like to eat well and have used a voucher at oecher deal (per person 19,90 euro) to get to know the cornelium. the main food (2 gambas, 1 bruschetta (although not tasted, but a thick disc baguette) was o.K., the wine (chardonnay) tasted like in the pizzeria around the corner and the main course was the highlight: we could choose between the fish of the day (here it was originally salmon) and rumpsteak. my man had that steak, I laughed. we then got two almost identical teller with slightly fried kartoffel columns from the day before (good to recognize on the thick skin and the surface structure customary for warmed kartoffels) in the middle was incredibly salty laughs, at the top of my man an almost raw steak (question how he would like the steak, he was not,) at me was a completely unclear We have never experienced such a thing. Apart from the fact that we had no real savings with the exception of the small appetizer (the prices for the main dishes are all between 18 and 25 euro,) the price-performance ratio in this case is not true at all.
