Was Nick at Buckstop a mag?
I went to Buckstop last week and I have to say, I love this place! We ordered the half stop, which included a variety of house smoked and BBQ'd meats - brisket, chicken, pork, and beef ribs. They also served cornbread and beans. It's a fantastic spot for BBQ and they are open late. The service was friendly and fast, and I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive cocktail list for such a small place. They even make t... View all feedback.
What Lori Kihn dislikes about Buckstop:
All the meat tasted identical, old and wet . Nothing was fall off the bone here. My first bite was a fry and at that moment I knew I was in for a bad experience. No love in this food. You can get a fresher tasting meal in a soup line. Cramped, dark and cold. It appeared to more of a neighbourhood bar than a restaurant. More of an atmosphere for the neighbourhood drunks. Plenty of leftovers which we were happy to give... View all feedback.
Not a review for food, but their bar. Get the 'English winter rain ' it 's reminiscent of an orange Julius and yakcult. Sooo good! Also, the vibe is dope here.
This place has been a favourite since I discovered them in 2014. The ambience is dark but cozy and feels homey. The staff is always a pleasure and you can tell there's always a few regulars around with obvious love and a protective air for the place saw it first hand when a few stepped out to look into a possible issue when someone hit the window in passing Interesting range of drinks , the red sangria is my favourite and their classic old fashioned really hit the spot too. Now for the main event : fooood! Their hush puppies and cornbread is probably the best I've had and I always leave with extras ; The halfstop : 70$ , huge serving, took plenty home .2 beef ribs, 5 pork ribs, 2-3 smoked chicken, 3 smoked brisket, ramekin of pulled pork, Comes with fries, coleslaw, sauce and cornbread and hush puppies with cinnamon butter. We swapped the fries for beans yummy . The pork ribs last night were divine and the pulled pork was deliciously smokey . Everything else was good too, though I felt the beef ribs were a little dry but still tasty. They also have Monday burger specials which is nice . Another special mention is the fried dill pickles! Best way to get the appetite rolling . Slurp slurp ! All in all, I love this place and look forward to introducing new people to buckstop every chance I get !
If you look at my reviews, I rarely go down to 2 but this place disappointed twice. The first time we went we got 2 fried chicken sandwiches, they were ok, but the chicken on my wife's might have been 2x the size as mine. It was funny at the time, sort of,.. I figured we'd better come back for BBQ which is the reason this place excited me so much when it arrived on the scene. Usually BBQ places have strong and weak items (what they are good at might be brisket for example). We got the sampler and it was: the worst beef rib I've ever had the worst brisket I've ever had once I messed up pulled pork and theirs was equal to that (but edible) My wife picked it up so I cannot speak to service. If you are a BBQ place and cannot do meat right,.. I donno. I see people referencing Memphis (which I don't think is that great),.. but for sure Memphis is better than this place. If it was just an off night,... it was really really off.
Brisket sandwich 4-10 The bread and picked onions saved the sandwich the meat was mostly that chew fat stuff Corn bread 0-10 was dense and dry the honey spread tasted like sweet stale old lard I literally spit it out Slaw 0-10 Soggy tasted like it's been sitting in the fridge poorly wrapped for a few days Also was caked in pepper Fries 5-10 stringy fries super greasy and it was like the scraps of a bag bunch of ends
Local spot with what seemed like a small crowd of regulars was ok overall for our visit but nothing outstanding. We were pleased with the receptive welcome and service but disappointed with their cocktails. Despite very enticing descriptions on the menu the drinks seemed watered down and very weak on flavor profiles. The summer sangria which sounded delish, was especially disappointing as it was just like simple cucumber water. We couldn't even make out the white wine. We'd be willing to try this spot again perhaps sticking to beers and also to try their food in particular, the barbecue. Great location, cozy and dimly lit which has huge potential for vibes but hoping they can up their game on the drinks!
