Biff's Bistro, led by renowned chef Michael Bonacini, offers a mixed dining experience. While the hostess was attentive and helpful, the foie gras came with a rookie mistake. The steak was flavorful but the meat consistency was off. Desserts and the selection of half-price wine on Sundays were highlights. Other guests experienced long wait times and cold entrees, indicating that quality can vary. The menu, although not consistent with past experiences, offers a variety of French options. Service remains attentive, but the overall dining experience may depend on timing and dish selection. A mixed bag, but worth experiencing for yourself.
Our group of four went to Biff's for dinner. The waiter (John) was excellent and provided great table service. I had escargot and was quite surprised for a French restaurant we were not provided with small snail fork to pull the meat from the shell, in addition the shell clamp was broken (too loose to hold the shell). The food however was good but could have been served warmer, everything was lukewarm. The wine prices were high (approximately $75 a bottle or $27 for an 8 ounce glass). The sofa seats were uncomfortable and far too low how the table height. Admittedly we arrived just on the tail end of the theatre going diners, but the toilets were dirty, one stall didn't have toilet paper and the floor was a mess, this was disappointing for a restaurant of this calibre. Overall the food was very flavourful, just a little pricey.
In town for an event and made almost last minute reservations. They accommodated our delay in arrival when we called saying we would be late than expected. The host brought us each a small glass of sparkling wine to help us relax after the chaos of travel. Tried a La Bastille cocktail, and was impressed that it was not the sweet cocktails one usually finds on restaurant menus. My husband had the canard duck main course and I had the mushroom wild rice risotto. The food was delicious, and the only complaint I would have is that the portion of risotto was too generous as I could not finish all of it. However, I confess that I did want to save room for dessert. I had the apple pomme tart, while my husband had the one chocolate dessert on the menu he is an avowed “ chocoholic” . The desserts were great. The apple tart allowed the natural sweetness of the fruit to shine, and my husband was pleasantly surprised that the infusion of port wine in the chocolate dessert enhanced the depth of the chocolate flavour. I accompanied my dessert with a cappuccino which made for a perfect end to my meal.
We have walked by Biff's Bistro dozens of times but had never stopped in until last night. We most certainly will be back. The food and service were exceptional. If there was is one downside it is that the tables are a little close together, but it is a French Bistro so I suppose that should be expected. Enjoy!
My large group of 14 people dined in a private room at this restaurant. The service was excellent, with friendly and efficient servers who even made us laugh.
This restaurant is a cozy spot that is perfect if you are going to a show or game nearby. I had a gift card for O&B and was able to make a reservation easily.
