Was Rachel Simon at Common a mag?
It?s closer to a 4.5 star rating, but I?d rather round up than down. Cool spot for dinner in Savannah. Service was good. Was able to try several dishes including the scallops, the lamb shank and the short rib, which was the standout in my opinion. Wouldn?t say it?s a must visit but certainly a solid meal with a good ambiance that?s worth a visit if you?re in town for a few days. View all feedback.
What Eunice Hackett dislikes about Common:
We enjoyed Common Restaurant tremendously. The menu included many of what we might now consider classic upscale southern dishes. The seared sea scallops appetizer was exceptional, and while the sea scallops were good, the bedding of pork creamed collards in cheese sauce, Parmesan panko was the real winner. I could have made a meal of that. I ordered the NY strip, which I know I shouldn’t have, because I like doing my... View all feedback.
This was my first time at Common and it was wonderful. Our waiter/bartender was Evan who was funny, charismatic, and just a delight. Try the Savannah mule. It has a peach twist and it is so good. Appetizer were oysters with various toppings. I am not an oysters lover but my girls said they were fresh and perfect. The braised short rib served over cornbread with creamed collards, perfection. The rib is so tender, there is no need for a knife. The cornbread was a
All good dinners. I would have rated higher, but at the time of our reservation they were made up of at least 6 of their menu options that give us limited selection options. this is also not a very child-friendly device. menu options are limited to an adult burger and waffle. Drinks were good but not garish (French 75 and mojito).
This is the type of place that could easily appear to feel self-important and try-hard trendy, but was actually very unassuming and simply a great spot to have dinner. Staff was a bit overeager (at one point 3 different servers stopped by our table insuccession to check on us and take our order?! But everything we ordered was correct and well prepared. Entree serving sizewas definitely on the small side for the cost, but flavor made up for some of this. I still left kind of hungry, but the foodthat I ate there was amazing. We tried several scallop dishes, and oysters on the half shell as an appetizer, which we ate tooquickly to even get a picture. Excellently prepared, delicious! Robust vegetarian menu available as well. My coworker orderedtwo different cocktails, and she enjoyed both. All in all a very good dinner experience, would recommend if you can afford it!
