The restaurant has a friendly staff, though they may need more help for a smoother dining experience. The food portions are large and the seafood is fresh and delicious. Some dishes may be better than others, but overall the restaurant delivers solid Portuguese cuisine at a good value. The atmosphere can be a bit loud, but the service is attentive without being overwhelming. The wine list is impressive and the restaurant consistently delights patrons with their quality food and service. Whether catching up with friends or enjoying a romantic meal, Sol Mar is a reliable choice for a satisfying dining experience.
They need more staff. It took us a while for someone to get us seated, even with a reservation. Then half an hour went by before we finally flagged down our waiter for water and to place our orders. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly. The portions are enormous, you could easily split an entire between two people. I wish they'd make normal portions and lower the prices. I thought the chicken marsala was salty and dry. My date liked his steak though and the kale soup was good. Overall there are better restaurants in the Ironbound though
Great place. My wife and I enjoyed the paella for two. What an excellent dish! We also enjoyed the sangria. My wife and I shared a pitcher of that. Deserts and the fresh made coffee were the final touch on a great dinner. We will be back!
We love Sol Mar and have been there multiple times. The staff are exceptional super nice and the food is outstanding. I always get the grilled octopus on the roof tile and although it said market price, it was less expensive than a lot of the entrées. One point I would make is that they try to give you cheese and sausage bread for the table and you think it’s free but they end up charging you for it. Not a lot of money but I think it’s a little bit sneaky. I’ve learned to say no thank you. And also it’s not that good. But our party of 10 had a wonderful time. Oh and the Sangria is awesome. We got red.
The food was amazingly delicious, and the staff is so attentive and pleasant. Great place to celebrate, or just have dinner!
This is our second time coming here. We had a wonderful experience the first time, over the summer. This time was very busy due to the New Year's Eve, so service was slower than the last time. Our dishes were very good and priced very reasonable.
