What dan Bower dislikes about Half Moon And Spread Eagle:
The beef roast was disappointing, accompanied by overly hard potatoes that resembled granite, and the beef itself was fatty and of low quality. The boiled parsnips were unremarkable. This dish never should have been served; the chef needs to be replaced.

We discovered this pub during a walk some time ago, and we've learned that it has recently changed ownership. We called ahead and reserved a table for four for Sunday lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, while my partner had the lamb, and our friends opted for the fish and chips. All the dishes were good, but I must say the starters really stood out; the trout pâté was absolutely superb. They also had a great selection of beers on tap, and from what I noticed, a nice range of wines, though we didn’t try any. My only minor criticism would be the somewhat limited dessert menu, but that’s a small issue! The staff were fantastic—attentive without being intrusive. Overall, it was a lovely experience. Price per person: £20–30. Food: 4. Service: 5. Atmosphere: 5.
