Prince Of Wales is a traditional British pub in Wimbledon, offering a selection of great cask ales and freshly cooked traditional pub food. The pub's history dates back to the 17th century when it used to be a coaching inn frequented by Dick Turpin. The old cellar, now known as Bertie's Bar, Kitchen, and Courtyard, was originally built to shelter travellers' horses. Although much of the original stonework was demolished during the opening of Berties in 1971, the cobbles beneath the flagstones remain as a reminder of the past. The house itself was built in 1870, but it only became known as the Prince of Wales after 1891 when 20,000 British soldiers were paraded before the Kaiser on Wimbledon Common.
