Guthrie's - Fort Wright
Guthrie's
Description
Guthrie's offers a mix of Southern-inspired fare that appeals to its fans, especially with its chicken tenders and French fries, often compared favorably to Raising Cane’s. While the flavors of the food generally satisfy patrons, issues with service and inconsistencies—such as missing sauces and poorly crafted iced tea—have marred some experiences. Many appreciate the crispy tenders and ample parking, but the overall service could improve to match the quality of the food. For those seeking a quick lunch with classic comfort, Guthrie's shows promise, yet it has room for enhancement in execution and customer care.

We wanted to try Guthrie’s since we heard they would soon be adding a location in Independence near our home. The menu and options are similar to Raising Cane’s. We went with the snack box, and added a Texas toast at the employees suggestion. The menu and window flair boast of the fresh brewed tea. I grew up in the south and love iced tea, so we got a couple of iced teas as well. The chicken was good, flavorful and fresh, the fries were good, the dipping sauce is very similar to Cane’s sauce which is a good thing. I found the Texas toast to be too greasy and also tasted a bit burnt. Cane’s wins there. The worst part was the tea, both our teas tasted sour and had the nasty turned tea taste to them, they also had so little ice it had melted within a minute of driving away. As a tea drinker it’s like rolling dice, you never know what you’re going to get, especially the further north you go. I think a lot of places serve poor quality tea because while they brew fresh tea they then just pour it into a container containing old spoiled tea, ruining the whole batch. Or they just don’t make any fresh and keep serving old spoiled tea. One of these was the case here at Guthrie’s. The nasty tea kind of soured the whole experience, pun intended. If you’re going to offer iced tea and claim it’s fresh brewed and amazing then it should not taste sour, stale and old. If you want to compete with Cane’s then you should know their tea is fresh and perfect every time!
The drive-thru wait was quite lengthy. The chicken tenders were slightly overcooked.
Overpriced, small portions.. should be like a 5 piece minimum as they are like chicken nugget size tenders. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
I wanted to try a new place instead of Cane's, and pick somewhere closer to home, but it turned out to be a big mistake. They gave me cookies and cream custard instead of the chocolate I ordered, which was clearly noted on my receipt. They also forgot the extra sauces I paid for and left out my coleslaw. To make things worse, the chicken tasted like it wasn't fully cooked. I went through the drive-thru three separate times trying to get everything I was supposed to receive, and now I'm not sure if I even want to return. Cane's might be the better option; at least they don't mess things up. I was really hoping to try something new for the family, but this was by far the worst fast food experience I've had in years. Food: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 1.
