Dutch review: Restaurant Zum KafferKlatch is a true culinary drama in three acts. The tomato soup, which was served to us with much fanfare, turned out to be a watery, tasteless shadow of what must once have been a fruitful tomato harvest. It was almost a work of art, if not for the fact that I would have preferred to see this kind of art in the Guggenheim, not in my soup bowl. The salad was then served with the necessary 'extras ' grains of sand, as if they wanted to give me the gift of a holiday at the North Sea. When you make the polite attempt to indicate that you prefer water in a glass rather than in your tomato soup, you are greeted with a fierce and unfriendly response, as if you have personally insulted the restaurant. Service with a smile? Rather service with a grimace. However, the cocoa is drinkable and, admittedly, the onion soup was tasty. But for a lunch menu that feels like it should be a star meal in terms of price, one expects something more than sand and irritation. In short, the only thing that is high here are the prices. The Tomato Suppe, which was served with a larger gesture, presented itself as a tasty, geschmacklose caricature of the herald, was indeed a rich tomato sauce that could be obtained.
