Nestled conveniently near the ferry terminal, this restaurant has garnered mixed reviews that reflect a range of dining experiences. While some patrons appreciated the friendly staff and well-prepared dishes like venison and fresh seafood, others expressed disappointment over service issues, outdated decor, and inconsistent food quality. Complaints about misleading menu descriptions and high prices for underwhelming meals were common. However, a few guests praised the unique offerings, such as the creative squid and exceptional homemade tartare sauce. Despite its prime location, the establishment struggles to deliver a consistently satisfying dining experience, leaving visitors conflicted about their recommendations.
What User likes about The Port Askaig:
great eating, we had the squid and the sampi, cooked to perfection and served with a very unorthodox cut of chips, apple corn cut? excellent homemade winery sauce, I am not in the rule a fan, but I tried it and the go, very exceptional. What Luckcrosby doesn't like about The Port Askaig:
We just wanted a light lunch before the ferry journey. We ordered BBQ chicken wraps with salad. What we got was 2 very small curried chicken wraps with a garnish not a salad. Inedible for me as I don't eat curry, my partner ate both which was equivalent to a normal pub lunch wrap. At over £30.00 a total rip off. They have a monopoly as there is nowhere else to eat nearby.
