19.12.2025 - 19:00We dined there last night with our two children. Beforehand, I'd like to mention that we've dined there several times in the past and have always been more than satisfied. However, the management has changed recently, and we naturally hoped that the quality of the food would remain the same. Unfortunately, we were more than disappointed. The Mönchsheide estate is idyllically situated and has previously impressed with its pleasant atmosphere and high-quality cuisine. Unfortunately, our first impression yesterday was not promising. The music was too loud, and the style (oriental – which is a matter of taste) was perhaps rather inappropriate. This was later changed, though. The waiter/owner didn't seem to know his own wine list and couldn't provide adequate answers to the guests at the next table's questions about the wines. His responses were rather amateurish and, in my opinion, more than unacceptable for a restaurant in this price range. The side salad was uninspired, with overly large lettuce leaves and a watery dressing. The salad was drowned in oil and therefore unappetizing. However, half a cherry tomato was still present. We then had to wait over an hour for the main course. Food is, as always, a matter of taste, but at these prices, it's an outrage. It was simply presented without any care and the food was inedible. My Wiener Schnitzel was swimming in grease/oil and hadn't been drained. The entire bottom of the plate was covered in a film of grease. The fries were swimming in it. The presentation was also completely uninspired and unappealing. The fries on the plate, two schnitzels on top, and a quarter of a lemon. As uninspired as a cafeteria. This was reflected in every one of the four main courses we ordered. Unfortunately, it has absolutely nothing to do with the quality that made us enjoy dining there in the past. We wish the new owners all the best and hope they reconsider and perhaps take the criticism to heart. It's not meant personally, and much of it is a matter of taste. But for us, this has nothing to do with gastronomy anymore. It would be a shame if the Mönchsheide estate doesn't return to its roots. Unfortunately, this was our last visit. Nevertheless, we wish them all the best.
