Had been to this restaurant for dinner with my family as it's just down and convenient as we were staying in Zurich Mariott Hotel in Zurich. The ambience is very good and so is their service. Their starters like chicken dumplings and chicken Sathe are good and for the main course their Thai chicken green curry and beef along with sweet and sour chicken was good. What Hanspeter Jost doesn't like about White Elephant:
We tried this restaurant with a voucher (most of the tables had one.) Very classy atmosphere, good food and friendly staff, but really expensive for what you get. View all feedback.

I will start by saying that the food was high quality and very good. However, for the pricing the portions were tiny and force you to have to order more of the ridiculously expensive (but delicious) food. Details below:2 soups: very good tom yum style soups about the size you would get in the US in any Thai place for $3.50 Price here 18 Euro eachThe non lobster/shrimp main courses range from 37-48 euro and again, were tasty, but not any more than you'd get from any local Thai place for $9.95 (and you'd get more food.) If you are craving Thai food in Zurich and you are price insensitive then this is the place for you
Visited White Elephant while staying at the Marriott and were so pleased with the quality of the cuisine and the excellent service. Superb steamed sea bass -- plenty for 2 paired with delicious Pad Thai that just needed a little more sauce for moisture. Would not hesitate to return.
I ordered a pot of lemongrass tea to drink with my dinner here. The pot of tea cost CHF 8. Pricey but this is Zurich so expects inflated prices. What is quite outrageous however, is that they charged 5 CHF for hot water. This is not a joke. I had drunk half the tea pot when I noticed that the tea had become overly strong (since the tea leaves were still inside) and it was starting to go lukewarm. Naturally I asked the waitstaff to add some hot water to make the tea less strong and hot again. It is customary to for hot water to be added to tea for this purpose. I have never heard of any establishment charging for hot water, let alone such an extortionate price! There was also no forewarning that they would charge for hot water, which made matters worse.Having come here about a week after a visit to Thailand, I must say the food quality is authentic (the steamed sea bass was very good.) Portion sizes are about average although some foreign tourists may find them overpriced, but Zurich is like that generally. Pity that they spoiled the experience with the hot water rip off.
Coming from NYC, we were disappointed in the quality of the Thai Food at the White Elephant. It was very expensive and the portions were very small. I wouldn't mind if the food was at least good. Every curry dish tasted the same. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere was friendly.
