This was one of the best meals we have had on this trip. Outstanding authentic Italian cuisine. Gnocchi, lasagna and pasta were very fresh. We started with caprese and calamari. Our group had a variety of entrees. The meat sauce (ragu) was some of the best I have ever had. Tiramisu and cannoli for dessert. Gianni and his chef wife live on the property. He is a great host. Highly recommended. View all feedback.

This is a lovely little Italian spot. The food is not the best Italian in Zihua, but the atmosphere is lovely, the service is very good and the prices are very good. We will go again! View all feedback.
I’ve never written a review before but I was so impressed by everything about this place, that it feels important to share! The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was delightful! Everyone we came across was so happy sweet. The ambiance of the...“garden” feel was lovely. Our family of split a bottle of wine and each had a salad entre… our entire bill came to less that Highly highly highly recommend.
Location may be a bit of a distance from town but for this place that is a huge plus! A taxi will have you there in no time and worth the effort.Ambiance is beautiful.Gianni - from northern Italy - will arrange the seating from reservations which are needed. He will take the orders and can converse in many languages including Spanish English German and of course Italian - a true European. All the wait staff are local young women who's English is excellent. The food is all prepared by Gianni's wife who I am sure must have been Italian in a previous life!!! She is Mexican. Food from start to finish was excellent, fresh and tasty, can't say enough good things about it and can hardly wait to return!
Really yummy! The linguini with shrimp was my favorite. My husband had the lassagna. He really ebjoyednthat dish. Our friends were equally happy with their food. The outside dining was romantic. The owner enjoyed speaking to his quests!
We arrived for dinner thinking we had a reservation made by our hotel only to be told they had expected us the previous night& had thought we were no shows. Not a great start…but to their credit they found us a table in a pretty...and private garden area. While the service was attentive and the food decent, I was put off by the host whom I presume is the owner. He expected an immediate order upon handing us menus both at the start and for dessert. We clearly weren’t sufficiently deferential to his sizable personality. Our shared starter of grilled romaine with walnuts and Gorgonzola was delicious. My husband quite liked his linguine with shrimp; my pasta con vongole was OK although inauthentic with the addition of tomato and Parmesan cheese. We shared an order of tiramisu which was good if not great, had espressos which were watery and one shot of the owner’s wife’s homemade limoncello which was a creamy variety. Our problem is that we are frequent travelers to Italy and our expectations were probably set too high. For Zihuatenajo the Italian food at the Trattoria is reasonably good. As for us, we’ve decided to stick with fish and Mexican food while we’re here on vacation.
We recently ate at Trattoria da Gianni in the La Ropa neighborhood. We had the homemade pasta gnocchi, the salmon/ginger appetizer and the tiramisu for dessert. All were excellent! The dining area is in a nice open-air garden setting, spacious and cool. The service...was attentive and prices very reasonable. We will definitely return soon!
