Lan Jia Gua Bao Traditional Taiwanese Snack

Another Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendation. I didn't expect myself to try this because I already had lunch nearby and then passed by this place and saw the shop. I also didn't really think I would eat this because I had the impression it was just a very simple dish and I didn't think it would be very good with just a normal steamed bun. Since I only had very little stomach space with me, I just decided to try one Gua Bao and nothing else, and god I was surprised and very impressed! Wow it really tasted very good, I have to say the bun aside, the other ingredients were really very crucial to the success of this Gua Bao. I really enjoyed the peanuts and the sour vegetables a lot, they really helped to elevate the taste of the dish. Not to mention that the meat was so well braised it could just literally melt in the mouth. I have really underestimated this and now understand why its on Michelin. However the price of 70 TWD is indeed a bit steep. I think its very unique and definitely worth a try.

Very nice pork bun 刮包 , a local delicacy here in Taipei. The bun is soft, pork is very tender yet not too salty. The pinch of granted peanut and coriander added so much flavor (if you dislike the latter, you may request to exclude it). Remember to complete your order with 四神汤! Simply heaven! Staffs there are very friendly too despite of a Michelin rated store!

This place is legit for local Taiwanese pork bun sandwich. Close to National Taiwan university. Must eat for all tourist and expats. Pork soup sir corn is also super tasty. I came Monday but it was close and came back again Friday. Bun is soft and the filling tasty. We got the half and half, I guess there are different levels of fatness.

It's a small shop with very nice gua bao. Reasonably priced and also nice corn and pork soup.

In the past 6 months, their price on 刈包 has gone up twice, and has reached what I would consider unreasonable range. Quality has gone down a little also. Price is 30-40% higher than 一甲子刈包, and not as tasty! Time to switch to the better choice!
