I've been on a Mexican food exploration as of late this being my third or fourth Mexican restaurant in Zaragoza in the last month. First and foremost the food is absolutely terrible. It's just all mashed together there is no clear distinction of flavor or texture it's all piled onto nachos, dumped into a taco or a burrito. The food is lifeless. Not to leave a stone unturned I tried both The Big Burrito and the Tulum nachos. I finished neither one. If anyone has ever been to Chipotle the chain in the United States, this is a really bad copy of that restaurant. This is not to say that I put Chipotle on a pedestal because I don't but, the process, the meat and the preparation is very similar but the quality of the food is awful. The Tulum nachos were downright disgusting. I asked the preparer if he could substitute the chili con carne with another meat but refused and that's okay but after having seen the chili con carne I really really wanted something other than that. As you can see in the pictures it looks like dog food and the quality of the chips the quality of the nacho cheese, the quality of just about every ingredient was very very poor. Now the location is outstanding it's on a side street off of a main route in the center of Zaragoza it's easy to get to and there was adequate space inside for at least 50 people. The decoration was typical of a restaurant proud of its Mexican heritage but again the atmosphere was lost because of very poor food. Clearly they need to reinvent the menu, use higher quality ingredients because to be honest Zaragoza is on the cusp of really great Mexican food and they could be a great restaurant but they have a lot of work to do. I am a Southern California native raised nearly half of my life in Los Angeles and I know good Mexican food. The best Mexican food is not in Mexico it's in California. The best Mexican food in Zaragoza is Distrito Mexico. If all you are after is some Mexican rancheras with some bright colors and a place to sit down and laugh with a bunch of your friends irrespective of the quality of the food this is your place but if you want good food go elsewhere.
