It is a nice family owned restaurant, not fancy but great tasting regional food, one of the best Mole Ponlano's that we've tasted, you definitely have to try it if you're visiting Zacatlan. The personnel is really friendly and helpful. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about La casa de la abuela:
We went on a long weekend, on sunday there was a trail race so the village has a lot more people than the regular, this restaurant has not enough staff nor food. View all feedback.
This very back in time small restaurant has all major traditional dishes, homemade corn tortillas and grandma family recipes and flavors. Place looks clean, prices are affordable and is very close to walking to the center of the city. at the time we visited this evening, it was so busy and they seem to have only a few waiters, so we have to wait a little. overall was a good experience.

While the outside and how to get there might make you think the food is jot worth it, you will be completely corrected on that the moment you go in. A restaurant with a complete mexican house atmosphere is there, the service is amazing and while at the busy times it might seem they are lacking on personal everyone working there strives to give the excellent service they are wel known for. The portions in all their plates are amazing, from breakfast trough lunch you will be more than satisfied with whatever option you choose. With a traditional flavor and seasoning this place let's you savour the authentic flavor from their dishes. My recommendations are plates with mole, I had the opportunity to taste one of the best moles in this restaurant.
I had breakfast at this restaurant, which seems to be the most traditional and authentic in town. Although it wasn't on the menu, I asked for huevos rancheros with mole on top instead of red sauce. It is a delicious combination and the owner a lovely older woman (la abuela) came out to see how I lked it and to tell me about the prizes her mole has received. I recommend this place quite a bit for price, atmosphere and quality. There isn't much to choose from in Zacatlán, so I'd stop here for sure.
Whe decided to go there because this placer is the one that has more evaluations con Tripadvisor, it was sunday morning and there were about 5 tales ocupied, the service was really bad and slow, the food was also bad. The Enmoladas are a good option on the flavor. But expect slow service, mistakes with tour order, not good quality with the cooking. The prices are really cheap.
