Portion sizes are smaller, quality seems to have declined, and prices have increased. While some diners still enjoy the traditional Swiss Chalet experience, others have encountered rude service, poorly cooked meals, and inconsistencies in orders. However, there are still shining examples of excellent service and generosity from franchisees, reminding customers why they choose Swiss Chalet in the first place. The restaurant remains a consistent option for many, with both positive and negative experiences.
The service and food are always good here. The manager is always walking the floor to ensure that everything is going well and customers are happy.
We are visiting family in Newmarket, Canada and decided to visit the cinema, we thought it would be good to eat before the film so decided to go to the Swiss Chalet on Yonge Street, Newmarket by the cinema, I'm a vegetarian and they do a decent vegetable burger, a good selection of drinks and very good service with polite staff. We would eat here again.
Swiss Chalet is always consistent which is why we return. This was 1st time to this location and we were very impressed with the decor here, it's different from the others we have been in and we liked it. Service was good as was the food, but it was our server Mark who made the visit a good one. Not only a great server but a considerate one as well. Upon leaving we had our regular 'doggy bag' and Mark said before we asked that he would include a new full sauce in the to go. That has not happened in all our years and we thought that very nice...Thanks Mark!
Swiss Chalet has always represented a good value restaurant to me. Good service, good food at a decent price. I'm beginning to feel that isn't the case anymore.I took my daughter here the other night, and started to notice certain changes: everything is getting smaller and cheaper. For example, if you ordered a salad, the dressing would come on the side in a little dressing dish, and now it's just in a disposable clear SOLO container. Add to that the salad is maybe 2/3 the size it used to be, and the wedge of tomato was old and rubbery. I asked the very helpful server for another tomato, and she kindly brought me two more. One was fresh, but the other was old and rubbery like the original. After the meal, I asked the server if she felt there was cost-cutting going on, and she said all the servers had noticed that the quarter chickens are noticeably smaller than they used to be. I agreed with her.CARA, Swiss Chalet's parent company, is clearly trying to cheap out and raise prices. The problem here is that at Swiss Chalet, there's not a lot of fat to trim. It used to provide good value for what it was, and if they remove that value, why go there? You can't go to a restaurant only for the service.
The Swiss Chalet group of restaurants never disappoints. Large servings and fresh , hot chicken with tasty gravy and sauce. The mini cinnamon donuts perfectly complimented a lovely meal. We can always count on Swiss Chalet.
